When I looked at this specific picture many words came into my head, but the first five words that I immediately thought of were rejection, poor, depression, sadness, and helpless. As I examined this photo further I began to ponder about what the story behind this specific picture was. This helped me think of three important questions that were; what happened to these people? How are they feeling? And most importantly, who are they?


When I look at this picture there are many things that I have to guess, but there are some things that I know for certain. Looking at this photograph I notice that there is a boy and a girl sitting somewhere, by the looks of it on some type of road or sidewalk. When I focus my attention on the boy I can tell that he's holding up a sign that reads "Poverty Owning People…Can you spare us some change?" The boy is also wearing a hat with some type of bandana on underneath and his eyes are closed. The girl is sitting beside the boy and she's squinting in the light, which obviously tells the viewer that this certain picture was taken in the morning or mid afternoon. She looks like she's wearing a long sleeved sweater or wool shirt.


Standing in this picture myself I would see a busy street with a lot of traffic probably somewhere downtown where there are many stores and a lot of people that I could convey this message of mine, about being poor to. Downtown personally is a good choice because there are a lot of homeless and poor people that have to survive there so these people would probably fit in perfectly.


Taking a closer glance at the picture I learned that this picture was titled "The Poverty Owning People," and was photographed by Anna Moonshrek which was taken in the year 00. This picture's actual dimensions were not given, but it was taken in color.


As I look at this picture I can see that the main focus of this picture is the boy and girl because of how they are placed and how the photograph was taken, which was close up. This photographer has used many techniques so it's easy for the viewer to get a better perspective on what this picture could be about like the rule of thirds. This technique has been used well because it places the subjects eyes on 1/ of the page which clearly makes the viewers attention travel around the picture since it's not entirely in the centre.


These different techniques are a great asset in the outcome of photographs overall because they help the compositions acquire balance. When a picture is appropriately balanced a viewer knows that it is a good picture since there aren't any blank areas and the viewers eyes travel around the entire picture and not just one part that really sticks out. For example in this picture my eyes travel to the brightest thing which is the piece of board the boy is holding. This piece of board has the message of "The Poverty Owning People" on it. Since there is a message, and it is a pretty strong one even though it doesn't seem like it at first the viewers eyes eventually travel around the entire picture.


Color is also an important factor in the way a photographer wants the person's eyes to travel. It's usually pretty obvious that the brighter the colour the more attractive it is and that is usually what a viewer would focus on at first. Therefore if you have dull colors in your photograph they aren't going to look as fabulous as you would want them too.


Another important technique when taking photographs is texture. Texture is important because usually a lot of people like to know what the picture would feel like. Many people are curious about what they're looking at, so when the photographer makes the variety of textures seem more realistic usually it's to the photographers own advantage. For instance texture can be spotted in this photograph on the boys hat which looks like it's mesh because u can see through it, he's also wearing a jacket which looks like it has some sort of rivets on it, and his skin also has a texture because when you look at it, it looks as if it was burned by the sun because it's red. So one comes to the conclusion that he has been outside for a pretty long time. The girl is wearing pants that look like jeans and they look pretty worn out by the marks on them. This just goes to show that texture can also tell a lot about what is going on in a picture.


An additional technique a photographer uses is light. Light is also a vital principal in taking good photographs. You can see in this picture that the light is very bright because the subjects are sitting outside in the sun. Even though the light makes this picture look very bright and happy the moods of the people in the picture are the total opposite and they tell a totally different story.


Technique is one of the things that help a person understand a photograph. When most people look at a photograph they interpret what they see because most photographs don't have captions that tell the viewer what's going on. That is why we have to make an educated guess about what the photograph could be about, but to understand what the photograph could be a bout the viewer (me in this case) has to take a very good look at the specific item which is being viewed and than talk about their observations or what they figured out by doing so.


In this picture the boy and girl look like normal people but when you read the sign it tells you a totally different story about poverty and how they would like someone to give them some money so they can survive. It also shows me that since they have no money and they're asking for it, they are depressed, and sad because of the look on their faces. I can also guess that they are helpless because no one seems to be helping them out which shows rejection. They have obviously been rejected from someone, otherwise why would they be asking for money on the street.


These educated guesses are my own opinion, the story about this photograph could be totally different but that is what I thought of when I saw this picture. The photographer could have created this image to portray to the society that we should be thankful for what we have so we don't end up in a situation like this. She could be a journalist or she could be doing a project on poverty. Also since "The Poverty Owning People" sounds like an organization she could be trying to raise money for it.


This photograph like every photograph has its own uniqueness and that's what makes it so different from others. The positioning, the content and view make it a really good piece of photography and that's mainly why I decided to chose it. It also really attracted my attention because the color co-ordination was very bright and crisp. This picture has a lot of potential because whenever you look at you see a different story about what this photograph could be about. I really liked it since it expressed not only one opinion but many variations of different prospects just waiting to be found. It wasn't spectacular like many other pieces but it was still pretty good.

Where the Red Fern Grows is the story about a boy named Billy Coleman, his coonhounds and his family. The story shows Billy's determination, how responsible he is, his love for his dogs and his family, and his belief in God. Papa saved all the money Billy gave him from the coonskins. Now they can move to town and they can all go to school. Billy is happy for his family but he is very sad about his dogs. The day the family is moving, Billy visits his dogs' graves. Growing out of the graves is a large red fern. According to Indian Legend, only an Angel can plant a red fern. It never dies and makes the spot a sacred place. The whole family is in amazement, and now Billy is ready to move to town. This was a great book. I really enjoyed all the adventure. I also liked Billy. He had a lot of courage. He was strong. He knew what he wanted and he worked hard to get it. He loved his dogs and his family. Fed up with the second-class treatment from those who were supposedly equals the colonists began to fight back, subtle at first, and then with outright defiance. When the British pushed back and began their conquest to remain in control of their 'sister' state the colonies formed what would be known throughout the world as one of the most renowned armies of all time. Before the formation of the army nearly every colony had a ready militia. These men were a tattered group of volunteering individuals assigned to the protection of the colony. Almost none had any experience in an organized military force and were generally unorganized in their methods of protection. Practically all the militiamen were skilled with their rifle (which they had to provide on their own) due to the numerous encounters with Indians throughout the years. These proficiencies with the rifle and the tactics used to defeat the Indians would later be the factor that helped turn the tide of the war.


The Continental Army developed from the militia groups common among the colonies. When war began in the Massachusetts Bay colony in April of 1775, the colonists who gathered to face the British regulars were only militiamen. Four days after the battles of Lexington and Concord the Massachusetts Provincial Congress voted to raise an army of 0,000 men and requested the other New England colonies to join in this effort.


The New England colonies then began forming from their various militias a volunteer army enlisted for the rest of the year. In June the Continental Congress took over the New England army surrounding Boston and reinforced it with companies from Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia, the first soldiers drawn from outside New England. Congress thereby created the Continental Army.


The men comprising this army had never held a rank higher then colonel. The majority of their tactics were based off those perfected by the British regulars, and thus were ineffective in major confrontations. The major advantages that the Continental Army had over the British was fighting on their home soil and the ability to use their own tactics. Guerilla warfare was nothing new to the colonists as they fought the Indians on numerous occasions, and rarely was it in an open field. The opportunity to use these conveniently unknown methods against the British was a key tactic in the success of the Continental Army and the eventually victory of the war.


In every war psychology is a prime factor in determining the fate of the men. Morale is the term used when discussing the psychological readiness of men to participate. For the soldiers of the Continental Army there was little to excite the men into fighting a battle. Lack of food and clothes, no pay, and drab weather was taking its toll and the war officials new it. Something was required that all the men would recognize and all would look up too.


On July th, 1775 the Continental Congress officially established the position of Chaplain in the Continental Army. Only four chaplains were initially appointed, three of whom fought alongside their soldiers. The Chaplains in the Revolutionary war represented the denominational stance of the nation and aided in reminding the soldier what they were fighting for; the freedom of their nation.


Chaplains were only able to go so far though in keeping the morale of the troops high. The winter of 1777 had General George Washington and his troops forced from Philadelphia into Valley Forge for the winter months. An excellent choice for defense, with only one route to and from the valley Washington and his men seemed secure. Only, the men were tired, hungry, and poorly clothed. Broken supply chains had caused lack of proper and much needed supplies and equipment. Men were forced to live in inadequate makeshift houses with poor ventilation and insulation. The freezing temperatures gave many of the soldiers frostbite and amputations of limbs were not an uncommon site.


By this time the soldiers were unorganized and rowdy. Lack of discipline was prevalent as the men were selling arms, gambling, and walking on and off of camp grounds. Washington was in dire need of some assistance in re-building his army. In early spring the general found his way to re-train his men in the art of war, and take back what was rightfully theirs.


Friedrich Wilhelm Ludolf Gerhard Augustin Stuebe, otherwise known as Baron von Steuben had been applying for positions in the Continental Army after serving in the Prussian. With the aid of Benjamin Franklin and Silas Deane the Baron was able to get an appointment with Congress. Applying for the job of Inspector General of the Army, von Steuben came highly recommended and impressed the members of Congress. Being coached on what to say and when, he was able to secure a position among the finalists to be presenting to the Congress. After agreeing to take the position with no salary but expenses paid for, he was brought on.


Steuben has been called historys only popular drillmaster. The men loved his curt manner, his cursing in shoddy English and his hands-on-style of demonstrating every move personally. He created his own method of arms and drill to fit the American situation. Simplicity was the essence. There were other factors coming together to boost morale and send sagging spirits soaring. Most important, France entered the war as an ally of the new nation. Within weeks, everyone could see a new aptitude and pride among the formerly dispirited and un-disciplined men.


During the time in Valley Forge the there were some who wanted to replace Washington as general. These individuals were basing their opinions on Washington's success, or lack of. Other then his minor triumph at Trenton and Princeton Washington had lost every battle with the British. Compared to General Horatio Gates whom was much more victorious and illustrious, Washington seemed a poor choice to lead the armies. Congress thought differently though as they viewed how he commanded the men and how they revered him.

The men who laid their lives down for our country will be remembered for the rest of our days. What Devices and Techniques Does Willy Russell Employ in "Blood Brother"? How Successful Are They In Communicating The Themes & Ideas Of The Play? To start a play each dramatist has to make a number of decisions. They have to decide what they want the viewers to think of the play, whether it should be believable or just to convey a theme and for the audience to sit in judgment of the play. In this play Russell decided to make the audience sit in judgement, and they were sitting in judgement of why the twins died, and he did so by using a series of techniques and devices to make sure there was a barrier, to make us concentrate on how the play explores the inequalities of the class system. Blood Brothers was a creative experiment, where two brothers are split at birth and placed into different classes and see how it affected their lives. This does indeed sound like a Greek myth, but there are no Greek myths about twins secretly parted at birth, and that die on the 'self-same day' after learning the truth about their background. This shows us that the underlying themes in this play are of superstition and class. Most of the techniques and devices used in Blood Brothers have been used before. Aristotle was a Greek playwright born in 84 BCE. He believed that every play should follow a series of unties, such as it should follow real time, Blood Brothers does not fit into this category as the storyline spreads over a period of 5 yrs. It can also be a reminder in this play as the same song is used several times to remind the character of something, namely 'the devils got your number', that tells Mrs Lyons that her time is up and that it will not be long until Mickey and Eddie find out about their background. It can also enhance the dramatic mood. At the beginning in the first song Ms Johnstone is singing about how well her life is going, then she becomes pregnant and her husband leaves her. This is a good example of how comedy and tragedy are both used in this play. Marilyn Monroe is used a lot in this play. At first she was respected and then she became involved with drinks and drugs. The first songs about her were happy and joyful and then as the storyline developed and thickened the songs would become gloomy and depressive. A song is also a way of commenting on the action in the play, perhaps by the narrator. Not all of the songs work together, but collectively they can do one of the things mentioned above. Another way of distancing the audience from the realism of the play is to have a narrator. Narrating originated from the Greek chorus; the Greek chorus was a practical necessity. It made the transitions between scenes, giving the actors a chance to enter or leave the playing area, and could comment on what was happening in the play. When he was the doctor he told Mrs Johnstone that she was not pregnant with one baby but was going to have twins. If she did not have twins this plot would not have happened, and she would not have had to give one of her babies away to Mrs Lyons. Nonetheless, as all people are equal in a physical not a moral sense, possessing a passionate love of survival and some degree of rationality, Hobbes concluded that a viable, working society would arise as equilibrium between these competing forces. The logic is simple. Any persons right of nature justifies violence against everybody else. Consequently, in the interests of personal survival, people will come around to agreeing that they should renounce their right to use violence. However, this yields up a tense and unstable equilibrium. The moment one party deviates from their promise, all will deviate and war restarts.To keep society going with peace and confidence, then an artifice -- a Leviathan -- must be worked into the social contract. This Leviathan is the State -- whether in the form of an absolute monarch or a democratic parliament, it does not matter. The important point is that the State will be given a monopoly on violence and absolute authority. In return, the State promises to exercise its absolute power to maintain a state of peace by punishing deviants. Realizing that its power depends wholly on the willingness of the citizens to surrender theirs, the State itself will have an incentive not to abuse it. Of course, there is no guarantee that it wont. But when it does, it must brace itself for the consequences. . Unfortunately, most leaders, particularly African leaders, are misusing the power of the sovereign and do not want to embrace its consequences. The Leviathan states, The first branch of the general rule of reason containeth the first, and Fundamental Law of Nature; which is, to seek Peace, and follow it. The Second, the Right of Nature; which is, by all means we can, to defend our selves¡¨. Encompassed in these two basic rights is Hobbess entire argument for the institution of a sovereign ruler, which is firstly to protect a nations citizens from all other citizens, and secondly to protect the nation from all other nations. If peace cannot be achieved by stagnation, then the duty of the sovereign, and by contract the only duty of the sovereign, is to mobilize his subjects and declare war on any nation that poses a threat to the stability of his own. One of the interesting elements of Hobbess story is that concepts like morality, liberty, justice and property, have no natural, intrinsic or eternal meaning. They are pure social constructions. They are generated and imposed by the Leviathan, through his laws and institutions, to keep war and social disorder at bay. As history has shown, no set of values will last forever but will evolve as circumstances change. Hobbes is particularly keen to note that law itself is completely dependent on power.
