I am writing this letter to you about the banning of the book "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" by Mark Twain. I have found out that the school board has banned the study of this book. He probably wrote this book during his experience in the river, so probably everything in the book is what he reflected on. Lots of African-American people have been offended by this book. They have not understood the book or they have not read the whole book. The novel is about a boy named Huckleberry Finn who runs away from his father and travels down the Mississippi river. He meets a runaway black slave, Jim, on the way and they both travel together. In my opinion I think that this book is quite a good book. People say they are offended by the word "nigger" in this book. African-Americans read the first few chapters and then stop reading it. What these people don't understand is that Mark Twain had written this book a century ago. In that time it was normal for white people to call black people "niggers." Some critics also say that Mark Twain includes in this book some very rude and informal language. I think that this helps us students to really feel what life was like in those days, how people communicated, so in fact this is kind of a learning experience for me. It really shows me the way people communicated with each other and how the language has developed till today. I don't see why the school board or other people do not see this. A reporter states that "Eighth graders at New Haven's West Hills Middle School will not finish reading a great American novel this year." I think the school has done the right thing. According to what I understood, the two worlds here, are hislife(family, social class...ect) and the other is Grace(the way she lives, acts, her social class...ect). As the story progresses, John becomes more and more upset and ashamed of himself, and hisfamily, that he flips on Grace, by calling her a snob and all sorts of things. But at the ending,John realises that he was being ridiculous and that he was wrong, and begs for to stay with him. After knowing what both stories talk about, we can start on our comparison and contrast. First and foremost, both stories have a third person omniscient(partial), the narrator emphasizeson the main characters' thoughts and only them. They're both limited in expressing love. Johnfrom The Snob elevates himself, he tries to make himself happier by staying with Grace allbecause he thinks she's perfect. In Dochera, Loredo struggles to return to a brief moment ofhappiness, and that moment was then he first met her, which made her very attractive to him. Another point for which they have in common is the panic/fear of losing someone. In the Snob,John was so afraid of losing Grace after their argument, that he plea for her to forgive him, andnot to leave him. 'I'm very, very ridiculous. Please, you must forgive me. Don't leave me...'. For Dochera, Loredo is somehow afraid of being alone, so in order to prevent that, he tries to getDochera by creating this whole new world, with all sorts of words and defenitions. On the comparison side, both stories have different social positions. Like Dochera forexample, Loredo came up from a druken mother and poverty to a successful crossword makingjob, all through learning. John from The Snob on the other hand worked hard to leave this imageof poverty to this well learned status class, all through education. In Dochera, the character Dochera represents the life outside Loredo'sbox, she represents the future and happiness, when everything else represents the past to him. InThe Snob, on the other hand, has two characters, John's father and his girlfriend Grace. Thefather represents John's past, the poverty and all the bad stuff that came with it. Grace was theopposite, she represented the future, happiness and a 'getaway' ticket away from the life of hisfather and family. After analysing both stories, we were able to pick point the main points they had incommon, and in difference. But there`s one thing for which it was easy to spot, and that is, theunderstanding of the world they live in. Loredo, including John, cannot understand the worldthey live in, they are both confused. There's Loredo who's so confused, that he creates his ownworld, and there's John who constantly asks himself why did Grace chose him instead ofsomeone else. So in other words they can't seem to connect worlds together. To also improve on my results I would use a digital voltmeter instead of an analogue voltmeter. I would do this because a digital voltmeter is a lot more accurate than an analogue one because if the needle in the analogue voltmeter is bent then the readings will be false whereas a digital voltmeter does not rely on a needle.I could have repeated the whole experiment again, and if the results were the same then the experiment that I carried out was accurate.
