I am a new student here at Chanel High School, and I thought I would take the time to tell you my thoughts and feelings about this new experience. I have attended public school my entire life, although my parents went through mostly private school, but both graduated from a public school. Although I believe public schools are a good experience, I wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemy. When I was unhappy with my situation, and my surroundings at my previous high school I took the initiative to get out, and that is exactly what I did. It's hard to come into a new school so far into your high school career and expect to be accepted immediately. But I made sure to be nice and not shy and quiet, and tried my best to make new friends. Soon enough, I wasn't to new anymore. People just welcomed me with open arms, into a happy, warm environment. I believe this is a result of the teachers, administrators, parents, and the students all doing their part to reach out. High school is hard, dealing with all the drama that goes on in out teenage lives, I know in ten years I will look back and think about how silly it was to ever worry about such things, but no teenager is different, we all have to same concerns and that's just life. I have noticed that in a private school the quality of people you come across it much higher then those in the public education program, which provides a better environment for students to learn, grow and prosper. You cannot go a day within the school and not hear, see, or read, "Seek what is above". You cannot go a day within the school without praying this is a nice change. The school lived up to every expectation I had, except one. Recently the school administrators have chosen to dismiss a student a mere days before graduation. I know the story, I know the family, and I also know the boy. He has good intentions, high hopes, and very high standards. He has made the effort to ask from help in classes he is not doing so well in, he has offered many things in return. He works at a camp for mentally disabled children. He has been blessed with the compassion and the patience to work with such precious souls. This is a choice he makes, he doesn't need the money nor want to money he just truly enjoys the children's' company. As you know he has had some discipline problems, nothing overtly wrong just little slip ups here and there. Things that happen when the pressure of school, family, friends, sports, and all the other stress factors in your life builds up and you have no release. I know he means well, and hopes for the best for everyone, and I truly believe your choice to dismiss him wasn't the best choice to make. I believe it would be fit for most cases, but this one is a little different, there is more hope for him to succeed. With it being the end of March, so close to the end of the school year I have an idea, something that I think he will benefit from, more so then making him leave the school. Make him come back and finish the year out, make him pass all his classes, and make his take all his finals. Keep him active and involved with baseball, and possibly an academic club or two. They say most students do better when they are involved. But let him know that one more detention, on more write up he is gone, no if's, and's, or but's about it. You would have been generous enough to reconsider him, and see the determination he holds with in himself. I know that is only one small voice, but I hope I at least I sparked something inside you. Please take my thoughts into consideration, I honestly feel this boy has more hope within him then was he has chosen to expose.

Thank you for your time it is greatly appreciated. I hope you recognize the compassion I have exerted in this letter. Thank you again.

The Grapes of Wrath is not only a story of a family that is moving to California and in the process go through many trials and tribulations. This novel represents social injustice in many ways. Social injustice is when people are discriminated against for reasons that are unjust. It reminds me of when people say, "life's not fair", once someone is bias towards anything ranging from a group of people to a few individuals, or an organization, and they treat them in an unpleasant way, it's socially unjust. This is because people aren't getting the same rights as other people are. An example of this would be when black people were thought of as nothing more than trash, and sold as slaves. This isn't fair because they are the same as every other human, but because of their race they weren't accepted. This novel depicts different types of social injustice. There was one example of this that stuck out in my mind in a huge way. Jim Casey was trying to organize the workers of the strike and the policemen didn't like it and decided to stop him that they would kill him. Going that far to stop someone from doing something so harmless is totally wrong, and extremely unfair. It was also horrible that the police wanted to burn down Hooverville just because they wanted to get rid of the okies. It 's strange that the police who are suppose to protect, and lend a hand to others, were the ones that were going to actually set fire to a town. The police department doesn't have to like the okies, but they shouldn't even think of doing something to put people's lives in danger to drive them out of town. Today we still have many social injustices. I think that people who are gay or lesbian are sometimes not treated the way they should be. Lots of times people who aren't heterosexual are beaten or are verbally abused by people who don't understand them or don't approve of their lifestyle. This is being prejudice to people who haven't done anything to anyone, therefore shouldn't be torn apart just because of their sexual preference. There are hate group that are open about their hatred to these people. It had actually ruined the lives of some select gays or lesbians that have been tortured from un-accepting individuals. Sadly some have even died from severe beating, or suicide. This is an example of unreasonable treatment towards people that have done nothing wrong.

Solving social injustices wouldn't be an easy task. In order to go about doing something like that you would have to try to get people to all agree with each other about everything. Realistically I don't believe that it will ever be an issue that is solved. To better the problem I believe that people should reach out to each other and try to learn about different cultures, and lifestyles instead of always being so stuck in their own ways. People now a days are so into themselves and only think that their point of views are right. If everyone would just be willing to accept everyone for who they are, as long as they aren't hurting others, social injustice wouldn't exist. So I think that if people were more exposed to other cultures either by traveling to other places, or attending classes, and trying to understand that people aren't always going to agree on everything everyone will get along. In conclusion from reading this book I've realized that in this world we do have a large problem with social injustice. I didn't realize this until writing this essay. I knew about groups being discriminated against, but I didn't stop to think of how much of a problem it is. The Grapes of Wrath really describes to the reader that there are many unfair circumstances in the world from an assortment of examples. I believe that people should try to come together to make these unjust issues better. They are never going to disappear completely, but there is definitely a chance that if people were educated about the differences we all have, and why try to be tolerant of this the problem could be more in control. The American FantasyThe history of America is an amazing one, filled with action, energy, and growth. In the very short history of America, it has progressed from an undeveloped, isolated land to the economically dominant nation that it is today. All the economic growth and progress of this nation is mainly due to the ideal of the "real" American Dream that promotes and rewards hard work. But over a long period of time, the American Dream has become very distorted, and it is the driving force that gives some people unrealistic goals they are not capable of. The American Dream has changed into an ideal of one's fantasy of an utopian life. But the very nature of this fantasy prevents the enjoyment of the success one has earned because the temptation is always nagging and insisting for more progress and more accomplishment. Some may think that this temptation for more is good but in actuality this only breeds greed for more and discontentment with your present position in life. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby is the perfect example of the unrealistic "American fantasies." The novel begins by showing an intense obsession with the American Dream. The characters, especially Gatsby, are emphatically materialistic and strive towards very unrealistic goals and dreams. It is clear that in the beginning that Nick seems to be inexperienced with the idea of the American Dream while Gatsby is an expert. Having been born to a poor household, Gatsby successfully escaped poverty. Without any extraordinary abilities, Gatsby was able to acquire millions of dollars and some fame in the matter of a few years. The financial success of Gatsby implies that he is well aware of the American Dream and that he has mastered his own ways to make easy money to accomplish this American Dream.

Essay help on The American Fantasy

After five years, Gatsby is finally in the position to achieve his final American Dream. He has the money, the house, the social connections and everything was in place for him to finally realize his aspiration Daisy. And yet, when he finally gets the chance to reunite with Daisy, he did not find any great happiness, only disappointment. Gatsby was not satisfied yet. Gatsby tries to recreate the past and wants Daisy to divorce Tom. But Gatsby's discontent only lasts for a short while. He is murdered in revenge for an accident he never committed. It is my American Dream to become a doctor and live a comfortable life. I don't want to strive to become a millionaire or live in a mansion of any sort but, I would like to live in an nice home. I also would like an expensive, beautiful car. But the most important thing is that these materialistic goals are not the basis of what I want to do or achieve. I think my American Dream is a "real" American Dream because it is not a fantasy. I can accomplish it if I work hard and try my best. It is also realistic since I think I am capable of doing it through hard work. Becoming a doctor requires a lot of time, hard work and patience, not to mention, the financial burden involved. But it is still what I want to do in life. Furthermore, I will be content once I accomplish my goal. I won't be greedy or discontent and strive for something in dishonest or unrealistic ways like Gatsby. One's desire to live the fantasy created by his/her dreams is the very force that makes the achievement of his/her fantasy impossible. Gatsby based his entire existence on a dream and became obsessed with what he did not have instead of enjoying his accomplishments. The American Dream is not a means to an end, rather, it is a way of American life ,and it will always be one step out of reach. The Great Gatsby! "The greatest friend of Truth is time, her greatest enemy is Prejudice, and her constant companion Humility." --Charles Caleb Colton-- Truth is never hidden in the eyes of God. But in the our world where prejudice and discrimination is present, truth can be manipulated and it's delay can destroy a man's life. To Kill A Mockingbird proves how prejudice is present in our lives and how it masked truth because of deprived justice. Many scenes made a major impact in the story. Atticus's stance at the door of the jail before Tom Robinson's trial is symbolic of his role throughout the story. The night is dark, like the culture of bigotry and ignorance in Maycomb. Atticus's light illuminates the night, as Atticus strives to teach his community the truth and expose their unfairness. The light is an unusual addition to the scene it would not occur outside the jail unless Atticus brought it there himself. Likewise, without people like Atticus going out of their way to help others, the darkness of prejudice could perpetuate itself indefinitely. Atticus doesn't hold a gun or other weapon, only a book. He protected the basic human rights of Tom and all his people using his knowledge and his experience in law. With his high morals, he did not lower himself to the violent measures used by others, even for his own self-defense. Atticus wants the children to understand that courage has to do with the one's personal goals, no matter what the odds are against achieving a goal. Heroism is the fight itself, the struggle against fate or circumstance or any overpowering force. That courage is about more than men with guns, it's knowing you're going to lose but sticking to your views and fighting anyway.Atticus's warning about shooting a mockingbird is the first mention of the mockingbird theme. The idea coincides with his distaste for hunting Atticus doesn't want his children to inflict cruelty upon the innocent mockingbirds just because they have the power of the air guns, just as he doesn't like to shoot. His warning serves to emphasize the responsibilities that come with power. Those who have power must be careful not to use it cruelly upon beings who are innocent and harmless. If an animal provokes harm, such as a bluebird, then one may exercise power against it, but the powerful must be careful in choosing whom they target. In the trial of the harmless Tom Robinson, the white people in the jury have power over the black man, and they chose to exercise their power poorly, declaring him guilty, although evidence tells he's innocent, simply because he is black. They denied the justice to Tom. In consequence with this, they have concealed the truth to everyone and made fools out of themselves. They knew the truth but they did not release it. They even destroyed Tom's life and the welfare of his family. They just wasted their power as jury. The mockingbird theme also appeared in Boo Radley's rescue of Jem and Scout. Atticus's preference for not shooting shows that he would like to remove himself from situations of unfair power. Like the gun, the situation of white supremacy is a creation of society that contradicts all that is natural to mankind; it separates men into groups and places one ahead of the other. Atticus wishes to do away with these categories and power discrepancies.

God created us equal. No one is more superior than anyone. We must treat ourselves equally and not judge anyone by his color, height or disabilities. We must learn to weigh situations justly and lawfully. We should not fear the truth for the truth would set us free. We must learn to make a stand on what is true and never be worried of what others would think of us. We must not also abuse whatever power we have. We must learn to humble ourselves and learn that with great power comes great responsibilities. We should use these powers at the same time see through the eyes of God. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. The book A Thousand Acres, by Jane Smiley, is characterized by Ginny's growing conflict with her father, Larry. Their conflict comes from the characters' needs for control. Ginny realizes that she has had no control over her life and Larry loses control of his life and tries to get it back.In Larry's ambition to buy all of the land adjacent to his farm he also acquirers a yearning to have complete ownership over everything on the farm. This, of course, includes Ginny and Rose. Larry shows his ownership of Ginny not only by committing incest, but also by controlling her life. She never leaves the farm or goes to college, and she marries a man because he is a good farmer and gets along with Larry. Ginny does not discover that this is the life her father wants and not the life she wants for herself until she has lived this life for many years. Ginny may not have known consciously that this was not the life she wanted, but she certainly was not satisfied with it. She is not as excited about farm life as her father, Ty, or Pete. When it is her chance to own the farm and experiment with new ideas, like the hogs, she is more worried than excited. Ginny does not enjoy being a farm wife but she was raised knowing that she would one day have a life just like her mothers, always serving others and never herself. She lives to make her family happy and they rarely show appreciation. Larry sees Ginny's attentiveness as a threat to his independence. It takes the chaos of the farm switching hands and an affair with Jess, who has enough distance from the farm to see what is really happening, for her to realize how much she resents that being used by her family. Ginny is not the only character whose offering is unappreciated. Larry's children cannot understand why he would give up the one thing he lives for, the farm. Larry owns one thousand acres, a large amount of farmland for one family. The work of his life has been to build an empire - complete, efficient, debt-free - and pass it on for his offspring to treasure and maintain. The farm could have continued to provide for his family for many generations. However, as soon as Larry passes the farm on to his daughters and sons-in-law they gamble it on new ideas and techniques with which Larry is not comfortable. What the younger generation sees as a way to take huge steps forward in the farming business, Larry sees as folly and waste.

When Larry gives his farm up to his children he needs to see that he still has control over his family. He tests this by taking long drives without telling anywhere where he is going and by buying furniture he does not need. What Larry finds is that he still has a large amount of control over his family's emotions. However, because of her father's age and drastic behavior, Ginny feels she must exert some authority and take his car keys. Larry sees this as the ultimate loss of control over his life. This is what pushes him off the deep end. Both Ginny and Larry give the best gifts that they can present to their family, Larry his farm and Ginny her life, only to see their gifts being abused and taken for granted. Larry decides that his family is not fit to run the farm. Ginny realizes that she must start to take her life back. However, they are both gifts that are not easily taken back. As Ginny is just beginning to realize that Larry is not the man she thought he was, Rose uncovers her the rude awakening of their father raping them as children. This shows Ginny just how much her life has been for her father. The lawsuit over the farm represents both Larry and Ginny trying to win back the control they had given up. It is where the two characters' needs come into contrast. Larry cannot have his ideal future unless Ginny continues to play the part of the submissive housewife. Ginny recognizes that the life she has been living isn't enough for her any more. In the end Ginny proves she is stronger than her father. He dies on the edge of insanity while Ginny starts a new life where she has control. Please note that this sample paper on Gifts and Curses is for your review only.
