He started to evacuate all people from all towns, abolish all markets, abolish currency, make monks grow rice, execute leaders of the Lon Nol regime, establish cooperatives throughout the country, dispose of the Vietnamese minority, and dispatch troops to the border mainly near Vietnam. as the Cambodian people were taken from their towns each person was told to write their last occupation so the Khmer could execute enemies and any intelligence that threatened them. Pol Pot wanted to make Cambodia a self-sufficient communist state and as make their revolution a pure one. Soon all printed material, private property, religion. And travel was forbidden. In early 177 Khmer raided Vietnamese territory and in late 177 heavy fighting broke out. The war was horrendous and Pol Pot was convinced that his army was infiltrated by spies from Vietnam. on Christmas day 178 0.00 Vietnamese and 18,000 dissident Cambodians battled along the border against 7,000 of the Khmer rouge. Phon Phen was recaptured in two weeks and the reaming army of the Khmer rouge fled to mountains to continue the fighting. Julius Caesar The play we have been reading in class is "Julius Caesar" by William Shakespeare. It is set during the time of the Roman Empire. Julius Caesar is Emperor of Rome and the Roman Empire and the other main characters in the play are Brutus, Cassius and Mark Antony. The servants and friends of Brutus were spared to serve Antony and Octavious. Antony then praised Brutus by saying "This was the noblest Roman of them all." Brutus was a very noble person who was reluctant to join the conspirators and was forced to join by Cassius as he persuaded him that it was necessary to kill Caesar for the benefit of the State. Brutus does not wish Antony to kill Cassius as he feels that it is unnecessary to kill him. He feels that taking another life is not required as Cassius does not pose a threat to the State or the conspirators. Another scene that we see Brutus in is when Cassius is trying to make him join the conspiracy. Brutus is very reluctant, as he was friends with Caesar. However, he is loyal to Rome and this loyalty overcomes his friendship of Caesar. In the end Brutus is forced into the murder of Caesar by Cassius. If not the face of men, The sufferance of our souls, the time's abuse-if these be motires weak, break off bedtimes and every man hence to his idele bed." This shows that Brutus was reluctant to make an oath, as he did not want to because Caesar trusted him. The very first scene that we see Brutus in is when Cassius accuses Brutus of being unfriendly towards him, but Brutus says he merely has something on his mind. Cassius wishes Brutus could see him as others see him"Brutus, I do observe you now of late; I have not from your eyes that gentleness And show of love as I was want to have. You bear too stubborn and too strange a hand over your friend that loves you." This is what Cassius said to Brutus, about him being unfriendly towards him. Brutus new that Caesar did not trust Cassius but Brutus confided in him that he feared that Caesar would be made King. Cassius convinces Brutus that he is the equal of Caesar and thereby becomes one of the conspiators to murder him. In the end I do not think Brutus deserved his fate as he was respected and trusted by the public. He was also said to be the noblest Roman of them all by Mark Antony. Brutus was also a friend of Caesar and was forced into killing Caesar by Cassius. Malaria attacked the colony, causing a labor supply because most were either too weak to work or dead. By January 1608, there were only thirty four colonists left. The leader of the colony, John Smith, was the reason Jamestown survived in the end. He organized raids on the local Indians to steal food and kidnap natives. In 1608 Puritan Separatists immigrated to Holland after being persecuted in England. However, after a number of years the Pilgrims felt that their children were being corrupted by the liberal Dutch lifestyle and were losing their English heritage. On September 160, the Puritans, known as 'pilgrims' before they left, departed with thirty five Puritan Separatists and sixty seven others aboard the Mayflower. The original destination of the Mayflower was at the mouth of the Hudson River, but on December 1,160, they established the settlement of Plymouth on Cape Cod. Plymouth was an area just north of the Cape, outside of the area of the Virginia Company. It provided good anchorage and an excellent harbor. Cold climate and thin, rocky soil limited farm size. New Englanders turned to lumbering, shipbuilding, fishing and trade. The relations between the Pilgrims and the Indians were not bad, mostly because the native population was weakened by disease. The survival and growth of the colony ultimately depended on the natives' help from Squanto and Samoset. Squanto learned English and eased the tension between the two cultures. The Pilgrims had a poor community, but stayed because they were devoted to religion and they had faith. They did not care how they were viewed by other ambitious colonies to the north.
