Julius Caesar The play we have been reading in class is "Julius Caesar" by William Shakespeare. It is set during the time of the Roman Empire. Julius Caesar is Emperor of Rome and the Roman Empire and the other main characters in the play are Brutus, Cassius and Mark Antony. Caesar is Emperor and the play is set at the Feast of Lupercal which is held to celebrate another of Caesars victories. Some of those present fear that Caesar will become King and take complete control of the Roman Empire making the Senate powerless. During the feast Antony offers Caesar a mock crown of thorns which he refuses, but the Republicans see this as planting the idea of Caesar becoming King in the minds of the crowd. Cassius persuades Brutus that killing Caesar is the only way to save the Republic. Brutus eventually agrees to join the conspiracy against Caesar.The following day the conspirators kill Caesar on his way to the Senate. At Caesar's funeral Brutus speaks to justify the murder. He leaves and Antony then speaks to the crowd who convinces them that Caesar's death must be avenged. Brutus and Cassius then have to flee Rome from the crowd.

At the Battle of Phillipi the two sides meet and Brutus kills himself as his side is defeated.The last scene that we see Brutus is when they are at the battlefield of Phillipi. If not the face of men, The sufferance of our souls, the time's abuse-if these be motires weak, break off bedtimes and every man hence to his idele bed." This shows that Brutus was reluctant to make an oath, as he did not want to because Caesar trusted him. The very first scene that we see Brutus in is when Cassius accuses Brutus of being unfriendly towards him, but Brutus says he merely has something on his mind. Cassius wishes Brutus could see him as others see him"Brutus, I do observe you now of late; I have not from your eyes that gentleness And show of love as I was want to have. You bear too stubborn and too strange a hand over your friend that loves you." This is what Cassius said to Brutus, about him being unfriendly towards him. Brutus new that Caesar did not trust Cassius but Brutus confided in him that he feared that Caesar would be made King. Cassius convinces Brutus that he is the equal of Caesar and thereby becomes one of the conspiators to murder him.
