Annie Dillard's essay Living Like Weasels is a story of her encounter with a wild weasel at a place called Hollins Pond. The pond is a quiet place about twenty minutes from her house where she liked to go at sunset and sit on a tree trunk (Dillard 0). She says I startled a weasel who startled me, and we exchanged a long glance (Dillard 0). This glance then made her curious about what it was like to be a weasel. She wondered what goes on in the brain of a weasel and what does it think about. In that brief, seemingly meaningless, moment they exchanged, Dillard finds something very profound about herself and life and why we should all live like weasels.

Who wants to live like a weasel? Eeuhh! The first thing that comes to my mind when I think of a weasel is the typical stereotype dirty, shady, darting, conniving. Those aren't any qualities I would like to have or to live like. Well, in Dillard's research about weasels (after her encounter), she found the natural principle by which they live. She finds a story of a man who shot an eagle out of the sky and found a dry skull of a weasel attached by the jaws to its throat. And says Obedient to instinct, he bites his prey at the neck, either splitting the jugular vein at the throat or crunching the brain at the base of the skull, and he does not let go. (Dillard 0) Again, at first thought, this natural principle of the weasel is not something I would ever think of to apply to my life. But in a surprising way Dillard convinced me to reconsider my first thoughts of living like a weasel.

She says, What does a weasel think about? He won't say. His journal is tracks in clay, a spray of feathers, mouse blood and bone uncollected, unconnected, loose-leaf, and blown. (Dillard 11). They have a simple life, free do what they want, not really thinking about anything, a certain mindlessness, something of the purity of living in the physical senses and the dignity of living without bias or motive. The weasel lives in necessity and we live in choice, hating the necessity and dying at the last ignobly in its talons. I would like to live as I should, as the weasel lives as he should. And I suspect that for me the way is like weasel's open to time and death painlessly, noticing everything, remembering nothing, choosing the given with a fierce and pointed will. (Dillard 11) Now living like a weasel doesn't sound so bad, right? For me, actually, it sounds just right. We, as humans, can learn a lot from the weasel. And we have a choice, as the author says, to live any way we want. Her advice is to stalk your calling in a certain skilled and supple way, to locate the most tender and live spot and plug into that pulse. This is yielding, not fighting. A weasel doesn't attack anything; a weasel lives as he's meant to, yielding at every moment to the perfect freedom of single necessity. (Dillard 11) She also says to grasp your one necessity and not let it go, to dangle from it limp wherever it takes you. Then even death, where you're going no matter how you live, cannot you part. Seize it and let it seize you up aloft even, till your eyes burn out and drop; let your musky flesh fall off in shreds, and let your very bones unhinge and scatter, loosened over the fields, over fields and woods, lightly, thoughtless, from any height at all, from as high as eagles. (Dillard 11)

Nathan Loeb, 1, and his partner Richard Loeb, 18, were born into very wealthy families, and had a bright future ahead of them. Loeb was obessed with crime. Both men thought that murder was an essential part of committing the perfect crime. They also planned to kidnap their victim to minimize the likelihood of getting caught. On May 1, 14, at about 5 PM, 14 year old Bobby Franks was walking home from school. Leopold and Loeb were driving around the nieghborhood in search of their victim. Bobby Franks was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. Loeb recognized him, because he often played tennis on the Loeb mansion. They asked Bobby Franks to get in the car to discuss a tennis racket. As soon as he gets in, Leopold and Loeb drive away, and Franks is hit on the head with a chisel and a cloth is forced down his throat, which led to his suffocation. With Franks now dead, Leopold and Loeb took his body to marshlands around Wolf Lake. They decide to pour hydrochloric acid over his body to make it harder to identify, if found. They place the body in a culvert, and drived back home. Leopold and Loeb called Jacob Franks, the father of Bobby Franks, identifying themselves and Goerge Johnson. They mailed a ransom letter to their house stating to secure $10,000 dollars in old unmarked bills, and to wait for further instructions. They called him again at PM. A Taxi would arrive for Jacob Franks, to go to a specific drugstore in South Chicago. Just as he is about to leave, there was a call from the police. Bobby's body has been identified. Leopold and Loeb's dream has been destroyed.Leopold's horn rimmed glasses were what led to the arrest of Leopold and Loeb. As they were placing the body in the culvert, Leopold dropped his glasses near it.He thought they would never trace it back to him, because it was a common prescription. Besides, he had a good alibi. He often went bird watching there, and he could have dropped his glasses on one of his trips. The hinge on his glasses were one of a kind, and that is how they traced it back to him. Leopold insisted that his glasses fell out of his pocket when he tripped while running to take a picture of a bird. The police asked him to demonstrate this, and he purposely tripped many times, but the glasses never fell out of his pocket. Leopold and Loeb were found guilty, and they confessed. When they went to trial, Clarence Darrow was their defender. It was because of his 1 hour plea that the boys werent hung. His speech brought tears to people's eyes. Leopold and Loeb were sentenced to jail for the rest of their natural lives for murder, and years for kidnapping for ransom. They were brought to the Joliet Penitentiary. In 16, Loeb was slashed and killed with a razor during a showroom fight.Leopold managed to keep active in prison. Some of the things he did was to master 7 different foreign languages, teach the prison school, and volunteer to be tested with an experimental malaria vaccine. He was released in 158 after being in prison in 4 years. He moved to Puerto Rico to avoid the public, and he earned his masters degree, taught math, and worked in hospitals and church missions. Despite saying that he was still in love in Loeb, he got married. Richard Leopold died on August 0, 171. Please note that this sample paper on Leopold and Loeb is for your review only. Faced Friend You're sitting at the lunch table and talking to your friends. They all seem to get along and communicate very well with you. You trust them all so you can depend on them when you need them. Then you're at work and you work with the friends. You fool around at work and have fun with the other employees. Then all of the sudden you seeing the managers and your friend laughing at you and your wonder what they are talking about, it can be a good thing or a bad thing. So you asking then what they are talking about and then you find out that your friend told the managers little about your life. In this situation you would get mad and feel like punching your face in the friend or so called friend but you know you don't have the guts to. I'm talking about two faced people one minute they can be your friend the next time you see them they are talking stuff behind your back. These are kind of people you wish never existed in out society, but they do. Why be friends with people if they disrespect and say things behind your back. Wouldn't it be better to go to that friend and tell them what's wrong or ask them a question? It would be better then having to find out be people making fun of your or hearing things that people aren't supposed to know. I used to talk behind peoples back sometimes and I learned my lesson the hard way I lost a friend which I knew for a long time by doing this because I made fun of his girlfriend which was supposed to be a joke, but he heard it from someone else. Now we don't even talk to each other anymore. Just last week my friend who I trusted and talked to was talking about my personal life at work with out managers. That really made me made. I didn't punch him or really hurt him but I didn't spill 10 degree water on him which is very hot.Why be friends with somebody that does that to. I can stand people with that kind of two faced personalities. I'm not talking about multiple personalities either. One minute you trust them then the next minute they are talking behind you back. Why do people do this? So they can get a laugh out of other people or just to make you made, or him being the one that just has to tell something so he would be liked by other people. Other things that people do that could be know as face is lying I can't people you lie for now reason what is the purpose of, so you can make people think that you have to be better then them. I hate compulsive liars they are the worst friends to have. I had a friend lied so much that his girlfriend broke with him because he was lying to her. I was getting mad my self I didn't know why he had to lie like that. Just last week that same person flipped his car twice and lied about how why he flipped it over. I had to find out from the other person that was in the car with him to find out the truth on why he flipped it. I don't think nobody would have cared that if he would have just told the truth. People like that need help seriously. I don't ever believe what he says now.

Symbols, can be used to represent a variety of things. One such thing that symbols are often used to represent are ones family. Several characteristics of my family can be described with the use of symbols, and just as all families some parts can not. For my family, a barbed wire fence, a globe, a watch, a tree, and a peace sign. These symbols describe several aspects of my family. The links within a wire fence unite the fence and make it a formidable defense. However, a link just by itself can not stop anything, as one can just walk right over it. My family is just like that, together we are strong, but separated we can easily be walked over. The security that a full barbed wire fence is like the whole family standing up for one person within the family, just like a barbed wire fence provides security so does the family. When my grandfather, became severly ill and the outlook for his future was grim, it took our entire family to help my mom get through this tough time, because she really loved her father, and always talked about what a great man he was. When he had become ill, it was as if my mom herself had become ill, and would only be cured by knowing that her father would get better. As a globe demonstrates the diversity in this world, it also shows how my family is a family of diverse background, and also a family of immigrants coming to America. As a globe shows all the different cultures of the world, so does my family have a diverse background which contains people of many different backgrounds. My father came here leaving all that he knew from India, he had to leave his parents, and his brother to come to America. He often tells me that how scared he was to leave his parents and brother in India, but is glad he did, because it worked out well for him, and also encouraged his cousin to move to England. A watch needs all of its parts to function correctly, just as my family needs everyone in it to work together to work together to accomplish any goal that we have. If any one gear was to be broken or misplaced in a watch, the watch as a whole would not function. It is like that in my family. If any member of my family was to not be there for any reason, then all that we would normally do would come to a standstill, as we don't have that one gear to turn the next gear, and then the next gear and so forth. My grandfather on my fathers side tells me this everytime I come to India, and I am glad that he does because it reminds me of how he feels about every member of the family being essential to one and another.

The branches of a several hundred year old tree, grows and extends very far. The tree has great influence in its vicinity. My family lineage, traces back many generations, and now spans many different countries, as over time different people in my family as a whole have moved around the world, and just as a tree has an influence over its surroundings, so does my family in our own vicinity. A family's reach and size grows over time just as a family does. My brother often compares our family lineage to a tree, as at the base would be as far back in generations as we could go, and then each branch along with its sub-branches, and the sub-branches sub-branches, show the family lineage easily organized. "The peace of a family is well worth many sacrifices," my father always tells me when my brother and I argue about something or the other. He always stresses the point that family should stick to being family and not enemies, as if your own family is your enemies who can you turn to? With this is mind I have actually started arguing with my brother less over time.Symbols, can represent many things throughout, and although five symbols are not nearly enough to represent everything in life, it is surely a start. Please note that this sample paper on the blame game is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. In case you experience difficulties with writing a well structured and accurately composed paper on the blame game, we are here to assist you. While many pagan influences appear in the poem, Christian overtones dominate. Many of the characters exhibit Christian characteristics. Beowulf has a Christ-like behavior in his good-heartedness and charity. Beowulf understands the plight of the Danes that are being oppressed by the evil monster Grendel just as Christ knew of the oppression of the Jewish people. Both set out on a venture to save their people. To free themselves from the monster, the Danes need a savior, and Beowulf, through his desire to disperse their suffering, comes to save them. When Beowulf battles Grendel, he exhibits a sense of fairness when he refuses to use a weapon. The idea throughout the poem of living right, of loyalty, and of being a good leader can all be seen as traits of Christ. Just as Beowulf exemplifies Christ, Grendel mirrors Satan. Beowulf and Grendel represent the Christian beliefs of good verse evil. Grendel is referred to as a descendant of Cain, whom Satan tricks into sinning and committing the first murder. He is the image of a man fallen from grace through sin. Like Satan who is jealous of the happiness and joy that Adam and Eve have in the Garden of Eden, Grendel is jealous of the happiness and joy in Heorot. Grendel, as with Satan, is an adversary of God and poses a great challenge to Beowulf. Grendel lives in an underworld as Satan lives in hell. Grendel is referred to in the poem as "the guardian of sins". The dragon is Beowulf's last and greatest battle. The dragon represents malice, greed, and destruction. He is a symbol of the power of Satan. Beowulf's fight with the dragon is a realization of the story of salvation where Beowulf, like Christ, gives his life for his people. The dragon is a timeless foe, which represents the eternal evils that man must fight to preserve what's good. Beside Christian elements, the poem has many Christian parallels. Grendel who is described as a descendant of Cain is a very hateful creature. He envies the fellowship and happiness he sees. He hates living in the underworld, cut off from the company of other men. He stalks the people and terrorizes them because he is jealous of their joy. Grendel's stalking of the Dane's is similar to the devil when he was cast out of heaven and the joys that were there. He became jealous of mankind and to this day stalks people with temptations of evil. More parallels are evident in Beowulf's preparation and descent into the mere where Grendel's mother lives. While Beowulf is preparing to enter the water, he is pondering the evils that inhabit the pond. He knows he is faced with a greater challenge than before. He prepared as though he were preparing for death. Christ knew before his death that he was facing a great challenge, and he forgave his enemies. Beowulf's descent into the mere is similar to a baptismal rite. The immersion purifies him, and he overcomes the evil power of Grendel's mother. He rises from the water a redeemed man much as Christ arose from the tomb. While Beowulf is in the mere, all the thanes except Wiglaf gives up hope and leaves at the ninth hour, the hour of Christ's death on the cross. The waiting is similar to the apostles waiting for Christ to return from the Garden of Gethsemane. While Christ was in the Garden, the apostles gave up and fell asleep, all except Peter who loyally awaited Christ's return. Finally, just as Christ had one last battle, Beowulf has his final battle with the dragon. Both Christ and Beowulf fought hard in their last battles with evil, and although they both ultimately died in their final battle, they both were able to conquer the evil before they died.
