Charlotte and Saint Louis are expected to accept. If they do, the league would include 14 teams.

Atlantic 10 commissioner Linda Bruno said she wouldnt divulge the entrance fee.

We issued the invitatioins with the understanding that theyre going to accept them and theyll be part of the decision of divisions and how the league will be made up, Bruno said.

Bruno said she wasnt worried about managing a conference of 14 schools.

We did it with 1 and we can do it at 14, Bruno said. The old double round-robin days are long gone. We do need to protect rivalries for television purposes.

Bruno said the Atlantic 10 wasnt just throwing a life line to Charlotte and Saint Louis after the Conference USA shakeup.

We looked at who was the best teams available and we feel these two teams will make us better in basketball, Bruno said.

Bruno said the A-10 wont change its name, even though it will have 14 teams.

We havent been 10 in so long so why revise history, Bruno said.

The A-10 had also been considering extending an invitation to Boston University of the America East.

If they had remained in Conference USA, Charlotte and Saint Louis would be the only non-football schools in the new-look conference in 005-06.

The A-10 had also been considering extending an invitation to Boston University of the America East.

If they had remained in Conference USA, Charlotte and Saint Louis would be the only non-football schools in the new-look conference in 005-06.

Conference USA lost all-sports members Cincinnati, Louisville and South Florida and non-football members Marquette and DePaul to the Big East earlier this week for the 005-06 season. Conference USA added SMU (WAC), Tulsa (WAC), Rice (WAC) , Marshall (MAC) and Central Florida (MAC/Atlantic Sun) for 05-06.

The Conference USA holdovers are all-sports members East Carolina, Houston, Memphis, Southern Miss, Tulane, UAB and TCU, assuming the Horned Frogs do not bolt for the Mountain West, yet it is highly likely that the eight-member Mountain West intends to invite TCU. If that were to happen, then Conference USA would look to Louisiana Tech out of the WAC as TCUs replacement.

Conference USA has been very good to us, Charlotte mens basketball coach Bobby Lutz said, but the new Conference USA would be a tough sell for Charlotte and Saint Louis. Lutz said the Atlantic 10 is the best conference in the nation sans major college football teams.

Conference USA commissioner Britton Banowsky said Wednesday that he welcomed Charlotte and Saint Louis to remain in the league but did say an all-sports conference was preferable.

The exit fee for teams leaving Conference USA has been altered. No longer are the schools fully responsible for the decrease in a television contract. The original exit penalties included a clause that teams leaving would be responsible for the difference in dollars of a negotiated television contract. Conference USAs television contract will drop considerably, to the tens of millions of dollars, once the teams leave for the Big East. ESPN has the right to re-negotiate with a conference once its league membership changes. Instead, the departed schools must agree to schedule the remaining teams.

Charlotte and Saint Louis have been traditionally strong competitors in Conference USA; neither team has been an easy out on the road against the top teams. Charlotte last qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 00, while the Billikens qualified in 000, 18, 5 and 4 under two different coaches. Charlotte has been more of a regular recently, reaching the tournament eight times under three different coaches since 188.

The Atlantic 10 would likely remain a 14-team, two-division conference, although teams could be moved to accommodate the additions of Charlotte and Saint Louis. The current format Saint Josephs, Temple, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Fordham and St. Bonaventure in the East; Xavier, Dayton, LaSalle, Richmond, George Washington and Duquesne in the West.

Once the A-10 makes its moves, the next dominoes to fall will be TCU (to the Mountain West or C-USA); Louisiana Tech (C-USA or WAC); Boise State (MWC or WAC); North Texas (Sun Belt or WAC); and Idaho (Sun Belt/Big West or WAC).

The departure of Boston College from the Big East to the ACC remains an issue.

BC wants to be on board for the 004-05 season with Virginia Tech and Miami, but the Big East is demanding that BC honor a 7-month, $5 million exit fee agreement from the summer. Virginia Tech and Miami only had to give one years notice and pay $1 million to leave. BC has said it is willing to pay the higher fee but is trying to negotiate the lower payment of $1 million. If they fail, the Eagles might have to remain in the conference for two more seasons.

A person could make a dramatic change of character when they go from a heart of good to a heart of evil. Macbeth is motivated to kill Duncan by Lady Macbeth, but Macbeth is then motivated by fate, and finally motivated by impulse to carry out his next succession of crimes. Macbeth had a hand, or was involved in three murders in the story. The first murder was of King Duncan at the beginning of the story with the aid and instructions of Lady Macbeth. The second murder was of Macbeth's best friend Banquo, which Macbeth used the service of three murders to accomplish. It was fate for Macbeth to eliminate Banquo because Banquo was to be the father of kings while Macbeth would not. Finally, the third murder was of Macduff's wife and children. One murderer does the job this time and Macbeth decides from this murder on to act on impulse and not think or feel remorse for any action he does from there on. All these murders indicate that Macbeth doesn't know how to make things right after he has done something wrong, so he does the only thing he thinks is right, and that is to be more violent with each act he commits. When Macbeth is first introduced, the first impression that we have of him is that he was an incredible and worthy fighter and the King speaks very highly of him. An example of this is O valiant cousin, worthy gentleman! The phrase shows that Duncan is very proud of Macbeth, his soldier, and his cousin. In the witches prophecies, Macbeth was told he would be Thane of Glamis, Thane of Cawdor and then eventually become King. He was already Thane of Glamis and he becomes Thane of Cawdor shortly after the execution of the previous Thane, but one prophecy sticks in his mind. He is to become King. Macbeth had the thoughts of becoming King but there was no way he would ever think of murdering his King. He had neither the heart nor determination to do such a violent act. He expresses his discomfort with this in a soliloquy. That tears shall down the wind. I have no spur to prick the sides of my intent, but only vaulting ambition, which o'erleaps itself, and falls on the other. Macbeth mentions he has no motive to do the deed. However, his wife and closet companion Lady Macbeth, seemed very interested in having her husband become king. She made it known to Macbeth that the only way he would become king is to murder Duncan. Macbeth talks about how he does not want to murder his King but Lady Macbeth starts to taunt Macbeth and accuse him of being a coward and not loving her. She finally mentions that murdering the king would be a noble achievement and not a savage crime. Lady Macbeth tells Macbeth the perfect plan of making the guards drunk and using them to cover up Macbeth's dirty work. With Lady Macbeth's support and instructions, Macbeth carries out his first murder. With Duncan's death, and Malcolm leaving for England, the throne was now empty for Macbeth. Even though Macbeth has become king, he is not as happy or content, as he would like to be. He has become more fearful of the people around him and he remembers the witches prophecy to Banquo. The prophecy that he is not to be king but he will be the father of kings. Macbeth starts to think that Banquo has become suspicious of all the events leading up to Macbeth's crowning. He decides that Banquo has to be put out of the picture. He feels the crown has brought him nothing so far in the quote Upon my head they plac'd a fruitless crown, and put a barren sceptre in my gripe. Thence to be wrench'd with an unlineal hand. Macbeth decides that it is fate for him to kill Banquo for Macbeth will not have any sons of his own to become kings. Macbeth is so determined to kill Banquo that he does not tell Lady Macbeth of his plan until long after the deed is done. The murderers kill Banquo, and fate according to Macbeth has shown him the way.Macbeth has now successfully carried out two murders but the other lords have now begun to figure out that Macbeth was responsible for the murders of Duncan and Banquo. At this point, Macbeth has become so filled with evil thoughts that he realizes that the only way he can cover up his evil intentions is to be more evil in heart and in mind and not look back anymore at what he has done in the past. Strange things I have in head, that will to hand, which must be acted, ere they may be scann'd. In that quote, Macbeth decides that he must act on impulse and not think or feel remorse anymore. His first act he wishes to commit is to murder Macduff 's wife, and children. He sends a murderer out to accomplish the task and the deed is done. Little does Macbeth know that his latest plan will also lead to his eventual downfall, but now Macbeth has completely lost his mind and has made the complete change from good to evil.

Online writing services offer help on From Good to Evil in Macbeth

Throughout the story, Macbeth shows how a person can change from a heart of good to evil depending on the circumstances that they have to deal with. Macbeth was first dependent upon other people to tell him what to do and then, relying on fate as a guide, and then just acting on impulse. Macbeth successfully murdered Duncan, then Banquo, and finally Macduff's family. He eventually became so evil and so disfunctional that he could not even think rationally for himself. He indeed tried very hardly to make two wrongs make a right. Macbeth teaches us that when someone does something wrong, the best thing one could do is admit to those mistakes and make sure that nothing worse happens from them. It's never good to cover up a mistake by making a bigger one. Please note that this sample paper on From Good to Evil in Macbeth is for your review only. BY NICOLE LEMMER XThe Way of the World is a Restoration Comedy themed as a Romantic Comedy. Originally premiering in 1700 it was written by William Congreve and was directed and re-arranged by Gale Edwards. It was performed by the Sydney Theatre Company, inThe Sydney Opera House running from February 4th 00 until March nd 00.

College papers on The Way of The World

When Congreve wrote this play he was in his 0's. It was set in the beau monde of aristocratic society, where rank and fashion were at the forefront of thinking and the prevailing subjects were love and marriage. Society rejected this play due to its realism and subsequently Congreve wrote in a more fictional or emotional style. At the time it was written, recognizing themselves in the play, the social order, rejected it.In the 1700s marriage was often arranged to secure wealth and property. A Women's dowry was bestowed to her husband at the time of the marriage. In many unhappy marriages, death or desertion, were the only ways to escape. The morality of the play illustrates the reoccurring theme of life and love-still valid in current times. It is that each person's family strives (sometimes by extraordinary means) to achieve the best for their own. The romance and passion of love is overlooked or forsaken for the safety of security in the forthcoming years. Wit plays a major role, from the first act and throughout the play. Sexist comments and verbal attacks on both sexes occur. The names of the characters add a little humourous twist. Petulant is petulant and Lady Wishfort (wishes for it to be that she is younger). The stage had two rotating discs each inside a normal square stage. The inner circle had a carousel in it. The main colour was gold and this was repeated on both the stage and costumes. Angel heads featured around the top of the carousel and on top of the stage. These represented the symbol of love, Cupid. The walls of the carousel were painted or had tinted glass panels. Both the title and the revolving stage convey the thought that no matter what happens the world keeps on turning. This was a great way to change the scene with each revolution of the stage a reminder to the audience that always the "Way of the World" keeps turning. The movements of the characters were also a circular motion reinforcing the concept of the ever-turning world.Lighting effects were impressive. Centre stage, the main area used, although hard to light was exceptionally well lit. Footlights were hidden behind golden angel heads, positioned on the floor of the stage. There were four sets of lights on the roof and a set of lights on either side, just in front of the stage. Under the carousel was a little ledge to step down onto the outer stage, and there were countless small lights around it. When the scene was outside, brighter lights were used, the inside was contrastingly less bright. When the scene was in the garden, green lights and brighter lighting were used. Whilst pink light was used inside Lady Wishfort's room where the furniture was also pink. In the lounge where the furniture was purple the lighting was also purple. The music used was the classical pieces of the time, yet slightly configured. There was a gramophone sound to the music track. This was probably to accentuate the period the play was set in. Well-known pieces were played softly in the background to the dialogue. The costumes were of traditional design, toned down, but still to our way of thinking elaborate. The different fabrics used were traditional but with a modern twist. The Women's garments were large flowing dresses and corsets with sequins and ribbons to decorate. The men wore tight boots, vests, bows and overcoats with flowing sleeves. Both sexes had elaborate hairstyles, or wigs and puffs. The style of the 1700s-with the added glamour of today's hair glitter.Colour coding of the costumes helped the audience appreciate the detail of the play for example whether they clash or not, or whether they are a couple or not. Some examples are Mirabell and Millamant were dressed in white and blue with blonde hair representing good. Fainall and Miss Marwood wore black and green with black hair and represented evil. Miss Fainall wore orange with red hair. Petulant wore blue black and gold with blue hair and Witwoud wore pink, black and gold with pink hair. Miss Fainall and Fainall-orange, green and black clash-and they don't get on. (They shouldn't be a couple.) Lady Wishfort and her servants wear pink and white with hearts in the first half and in the second they wear pink and purple with flowers.Set in the 1700s this play is not modernized per se, rather it is given a modern twist. For example the humour is given an up to date wording. The conversation is the key to this play. As it progresses the play begins to shed a glorious light upon theContemporary issues of courtship, truthfulness and the testing of one's prospective mate. These issues are as relevant today as in 1700 and are themes everyone can relate to. It is also enormously funny and prophetic. Lady Wishfort had a very proper accent and the servants were a little less well spoken. The actors and actresses were well cast. Deep and hard thought about what each character was like had occurred and they seemed to become one with their characters. I especially liked Miriam Margoyles as Lady Wishfort. I felt that Damian da Montemas cast in the role of Millamant was less convincing than the other actors nor did he perceive the meanings of his words and character. This may be due to the fact that he had a bigger role and more scenes to master.I thoroughly enjoyed this play and thought that the actors were well cast and the direction was accomplished. I would love to have watched it all over again to appreciate each detail; each clever, humourous twist .It was an attention-grabbing play. To be honest, I didn't think I would enjoy it initially, however I got swept up into it and was really appreciative of having had the opportunity to see " The Way of the World". The Bicycle thief Antonio and Bruno relationshipOn one level, the film is about the economical crisis and the unemployment in Italy during the post-war period. It is a society where the poverty drives people to criminal offences. No one seems to care about others because everybody has their own problems. Not even the police are very helpful, when Antonio reports his stolen bike. The only sign of humanity is in the end when the man, from whom Antonio steels the bike, does not want to press charges against him, but seems to feel sorry for him instead. On another level it is a movie showing the relationship between a father and his son, and when a son's adoration for his father suddenly is being replaced with less admiration and more realism. Antonio and Bruno are almost together during the entire film. After Antonio gets his bike stolen, Bruno follows him around in the city of Rome to find it again. Before this happens we see that Bruno is trying to be like his father. In the scene where Antonio is going to work for the first time, Bruno is cleaning the bike for him, wearing the same work clothes, and getting the same lunch as Antonio; just smaller. He puts his lunch in his breast pocket exactly like his father and when they are riding on the bike, Bruno has a content expression on his face, feeling proud that his father has a job.Already in the evening the same day, Bruno's admiration for Antonio gets affected by the fact that Antonio is too late. Bruno has been waiting for him, and feels let down by his father who had promised to be there earlier. When Antonio gives a reason why he is late, Bruno just follows him again like the little boy who looks up to father, but he is still wondering about the bike.

Write a research paper on The Bicycle thief

Brunos uncritical acceptance of his fathers authority is significantly disrupted at several other points in the film. When Antonio takes out his frustrations on his son and slaps him with little apparent cause, Bruno refuses all visual contact with Antonio for some time. When he is walking away, his father tells him to go and wait for him. After this a boy falls in the water and Antonio thinks that it is Bruno. A little perspective is giving to him by this accident, and he realizes that his bike is not the most important thing in the world. He gains Bruno's respect again by taking him to a restaurant. At the restaurant the cold realities of the society they live in is being revealed to Bruno. When he sees the rich family and the child eating all the expensive dishes, he knows that his father is far from the great man he thought he was. Antonio is trying to explain to Bruno why the bike is so important, and they continue their search.Antonio is not very observant when it comes to Bruno. Even though Bruno is trying is trying hard to get his father to notice him, Antonio seems to overlook his son. After Bruno falls down in the rain, and his father does not even notice it, but are running to find shelter, he brushes the dirt of his clothes quite exaggerated, so that his father now will notice him. It still takes a while before Antonio asks Bruno what he is doing. When Bruno answers, he is almost shouting and seems annoyed that his father did not notice before. When Bruno almost is run over by the cars in the end, Antonio does not notice either, he is busy thinking about the crime he is going to commit. He just wants Bruno out of the way.Bruno's experience with his father that day gets him to realize that his father is not perfect. His father is just a person no better than the man who stole his bike. When he sees his father on the stolen bike riding as fast as he can to get away from the crowd following him, he cannot believe his own eyes, which is filled with horror, but when Antonio gets caught he also does all he can to help him. He pushes his way into the middle of the crowd where his father is being slapped and humiliated. He is the one who saves his father from being arrested, because when the man who owns the bike sees Bruno, he knows that Antonio is forced into crime by the poverty of the society and he only does it because he has a family to support. In this scene it is Bruno who is the adult and has to save his father from the crowd. He is both being portrayed as the child, but several times also as a father figure. For example when he is cleaning the bike in the beginning of the movie and notices a dent on the bike. He wants his father to complain about it, but Antonio does not seem to bother. When they leave the bedroom Bruno also closes the window shutters to protect the baby from the morning sun. It is also Bruno who finds a police man, when they catch the thief in Via Panico. Bruno follows his father like a shadow almost throughout the whole film. This could have a symbolic meaning that Bruno actually is Antonio's shadow. Seen from a Freudian perspective, Bruno could be Antonio's conscience. First Antonio is trying to ignore his conscience, (ignoring Bruno) and only notice it/him when he is shouting out loud. In the end Antonio is trying to escape from his conscience by telling Bruno to get on the bus, and he will meet him later. He does not want his conscience to be around when he is going to steel the bike. When Antonio realizes that he cannot run away from his conscience/Bruno but it actually is what saves him in the end, he starts to cry. Bruno recognizes and forgives his father's mistakes because he cannot condemn him as a common criminal since the man is, after all, his father. When Bruno slips his hand into Antonios at the end of the film, he is offering his father an entirely new relationship, one where Antonio does not have to be perfect, being his father is enough. Key Values of United States Culture The United States has one of the most diverse cultures in the world. A culture that encompasses every place imaginable. As a country, the United States has a very strong national culture. Almost every culture in our country has an aspect that is similar to the culture of the nation as a whole. Equal opportunity, achievement and success, material comfort, activity and work, practicality and efficiency, progress, science, democracy and free enterprise, freedom, and racism and group superiority are ten of the key values Robin Williams identified that belong to U.S. culture. Age and background determine how each value is interpreted. Different generations, as well as, ethnicities can have shockingly different views about similar values. A seventeen year old person, in comparison to a forty-five year old, is going to have drastically different opinions, as well as many similar ideas, about values, due to experience, peer values, family values, and personal values. Equal opportunity is a principal that our country was founded upon, and is an ideal that is still held with high respect around the country. In this case age makes little difference. Generally an older person has the same view as a younger person. Both generations believe in equal opportunity, and the only difference in opinion is due to experience. Achievement and success again are interpreted similarly between the ages again. How success is measured is the variable in this case. Every person has the drive to be successful in some respect, what the person does, and how good they are at it is determines success. What is successful for a teen, could be the exact opposite of what and adult would deem successful. For example, a teen who has a high tolerance for alcohol, and can drink well, is considered to be successful by the peer group, but an adult would consider this to be detrimental and a failure.

With success, comes money, and with money, comes material possessions. American's need to succeed also drives their need for material comfort. Most Americans want to live comfortably, and living a comfortable life style involves having wealth. Americas drive for possessions is not limited to one age group. A teen has the drive to possess nice clothes, and good music, where as an adult wants to have a nice car, and a nice house. America believes that, in order to succeed action must be taken immediately. A mind set like this leaves little time for refection. U.S. is based heavily upon the idea of action over reflection. Teens around the country measure their "worth" by what they can do. An adult who is a "doer" at work will get the promotions, and pay raises. Action is heavily emphasized in every day American life. Practicality an efficiency are valued heavily in American culture. All things must be accomplished in the mos practical and efficient way. Teens are concerned with finding the fastest way to do their homework, and adults are more concerned with finding time to do things in their leisure time. America is a culture of the "latest and the greatest,"and progress is of the upmost concern. The youth wants the newest most progressive sports gear, or entertainment system, where as an adult wants more practical and important things, such as cars or kitchen ware. One step forward every day is what America thrives upon. Science in America is mostly concerned with advancing technology and explaining occurrences rationally. Young people, as a whole, are all for scientific advancement, if they can have softer hair for cheaper, or a new indestructible cell phone. Most Adults support scientific growth throughout America. Science is turned to connect them with relatives across the country family and supplement their social lives. Free-enterprise and democracy are two principals that are deeply steeped in the culture of America. Most of American adults agree that a leader should be voted on by the people and the consumer should ultimately control the market. The youth in general does not know the extent of free-enterprise and democracy because of the lake of political exposure, and they have never had enough money to have the market effect their pocket money. Every American values freedom, but sometimes forgetting how free America actually is. Most Americans, young and old want to live their life with as little government interference as possible. The belief that people should be allowed to pursue their personal goals at their own rate is a staple of the American ideal. There are twenty seven amendments to the constitution that concern our rights to freedom from the government. Racism and group superiority have been present in the United States since it was form. In today's more enlightened society racism is becoming less of a problem. As minorities are quickly becoming majorities racism is starting to become irrelevant. Though this is true there is still the problem of discrimination in our country. The poor, handicapped, and people who belong to certain ethnicities, are still being discriminated against to this day. The young people are becoming less sensitive to racism, because they grow up with less of an idea of what it is and people who are different now not considered inferior. A greater degree of racism can be seen in adults and the elderly, because they were brought up when it was a common place occurrence, and was socially acceptable. Robin William's insight into the soul of American culture has been proven true many times over. Each key value controls our everyday life, and our futures. Each of these values is instilled in every American by their family and peers, leading to a nation of people who, despite their differing backgrounds, can have essentially the same views on most topics. America is strong, and the proof is in the people. America will unite under our common culture to remain unified forever.
