While growing up in Savannah, Georgia Flannery O'Conner's father becomes diagnosed with Lupus, causing Flannery to face death at an early age. The short story, "A Good Man is Hard to Find" leads to the death of six family members that are traveling through Georgia on their way to Florida. Flannery O'Connor's use of foreshadowing is a reoccurring motif that gives the reader an ominous feeling of death. When first reading the story, the deaths of the likable but dysfunctional family come as a surprise. However, reading the story more carefully shows that there are many signs, " some of these details are barely noticeable at the beginning of a story, and yield their significance slowly, like the seed growing secretly, through repetition"(Yaghjian 6)that gives clues to the reader as to what will happen. The story contains many images of death and the decline of moral character in society. The reader is given the first image of death by the epitaph that O'Connor places at the beginning of the story. The Misfit is represented by the dragon and the family "passes by the dragon" and "go(es) to the Father of Souls" (O'Connor 5). This is true for the family because after they encounter the Misfit, they are killed and their souls leave their bodies. One of many foreshadowing examples, O'Connor uses this quote to set the tone and creates a sense of apprehension. Her next example lies in the first paragraph of the story beginning with the grandmother telling the family of an escaped convict. The first time the reader notices this warning, they believe the grandmother is trying to persuade her son to change the vacation plans from visiting Florida to Tennessee to better suit her own wants. This shows the selfish ways of the grandmother and also intrigues the reader about the character of The Misfit. The grandmother brings her cat on the trip because she is afraid the cat, if left at home would "brush against one of the gas burners and accidentally asphyxiate himself" (O'Connor, 54). Although slightly humorous, this presents the reader with another image of death. O'Connor uses the character of grandmother whose dress is symbolic of a true southern lady to give the reader a vivid idea of her integrity. The grandmother explains the reason for her elaborate dress is so that "anyone seeing her dead on the highway would know at once that she was a lady" (O'Connor 54). The irony is that it is almost as if the grandmother predicts her own death. In this instance, it is clear that O'Connor's purpose is to build anxiety and create suspense as to what the outcome of the family's trip might be. The final, most evident foreshadowing of the family's death develops when they passed by a cotton field with five or six graves fenced in the middle of it, like a small island(O'Connor 55). It is not an accident that the numbers of graves, five or six, match the exact number of people in the car; there are five people and a baby. Since a baby is not exactly a full person, it is appropriate to say five or six. The murders of the family by The Misfit and his gang at the end of "A Good Man is Hard to Find" are not surprising since "there is necessarily a shift in tone in the story, it is adequately foreshadowed in … the introductory scenes" (May 61). Therefore, the end is no shock to an observant reader who notes the details that ominously foreshadow the family's catastrophic fate. Flannery O'Connor uses strong imagery and symbolism to foreshadow the tragic events that occur at the end of "A Good Man is Hard to Find." She hints to the reader the ending using Grandmother's knowledge of the alleged Misfit and his evil ways of murder. She provides several techniques to foreshadow many of the upcoming events utilizing tools such as the quote, characterization, dialogue, sequence of events, and attention to details. But, although informative in her writing, O'Connor remains careful not to give away the surprise ending. On examination of the story's details, readers are easily able to ascertain the signs of the tragic conclusion of the family.

According to the International Labor Organization, in developing countries alone, at least 10 million children between the ages of 5 and 14 are working full time. Many of these children are working in hazardous and unhygienic conditions for extremely long periods of time, and earning very little pay. This is not something that has occurred over night. Throughout history in many places of the world, child labor has become an economic dependence. Since the industrial revolution a large number of children have worked in factories and sweat shops. Today, high numbers of child labor occurs in poor, undeveloped, and third world countries. Due to the fact that the countries are poor, there are no strict law enforcement to protect children. Poverty is a factor, because poor people are vulnerable for exploitation. Child labor is the exploitation of the weak and the underprivileged.(ILO) If there are no laws or organizations that effectively protect them, the poor have to accept any wage offered, low as it may be. This means that people may need to send their children to work just to feed and cloth them. The majority of victims are children of minorities or of (illegal) immigrants. This is a result of poor and in the minority groups need to find work and not having the proper working documentation, therefore having to work illegally. India accounts for the largest number of child workers in the world. According to the latest 11 census estimates, some 11.8 million children between the ages 5 and 14 are engaged in child labor.Child labor is defined as children working too young, working long hours, working under strain, working on the streets, working for very little pay, working on dull repetitive tasks, having to take too much responsibility or being subject to intimidation. Child Labor takes a number of different forms including children working in small businesses, or working for families as servants or domestic help. Most child labor found in developing countries is within agricultural, informal or domestic fields, and not industrial. The most exploitative forms of child labor include child prostitution and forced and bonded labor which is found in some parts of the country. These situations where of there are girl child laborer in the country would call for particular attention.

College papers on Child labor

The after effects of children growing up in child labor are severe. Children working can ruin their bodies and minds and in most cases the children grow up to be adults without schooling. They must find low paying unskilled labor. In today's society if education is lost due to child labor then when the child grows up they can no longer find work, which result in a circle of child laborers grow up to be the poor who are forced to have their children work.Child labor is caused by a range of demand and supply factors. There is always someone to profit from child labor an employer who needs to pay lower wages or a government that hopes to profit from cheaper exports and cheaper domestic consumer goods. But what they don't take into account is the loss of children getting an education and becoming well rounded members of society.Child labor is different then children working. All children perform some form of work. The difference to the children performing work that is not illegal, versus child labor which is illegal, is the nature of the work. Children may work with by helping around the home, running errands or helping on the family farm. This is skillful, and beneficial work, and will teach children to take responsibility and prepare them for adulthood. Child labor however is work situations that are detrimental to the health or education of children and interferes with the child's healthy development.Child labor must be recognized as a problem and stopped. If we don't recognize children's rights then the cycle will continue to hurt the poor and helpless. Children can't stand up for themselves, they don't rally, they don't know their rights. We must take a stand against child labor. We must demonstrate that child labor is unacceptable, and not take a blind eye to what we know is going on. We must educate children to know their rights and put an end to child labor. Please note that this sample paper on Child labor is for your review only. Heroism is not tangible. It is a set of characteristics that a person posseses naturally or gains over time. Beowulf is a prime example of a herostic person that I would want leading me into war. On the other hand there is the dark or evil side. Grendel and his mother were pefect examples of how one would not fight a war. Even after killing both of them, and ruling a kindom for fifty years, Beowulf still has enough strength to kill a fire-breathing dragon. Seamus Heaney's description of Grendel, his mother, and the dragon were grusom and dark. "until finally one, a fiend out of hell, began to work his evil in the world."(pg ) In fact Grendel was so horrific he, "…he grabbed thirity men from their resting places and rushed to his lair, flushed up and inflamed from the raid, blundering back with the butchered corpeses." (p 11) "So Grendel ruled in defiance of right, one against all until, until the greatest house in the world stood empty, a deserted wallstead." (p 11)"So Grendel waged his lonely war, inflicting constant cruelities on the people, atrocious hurt." (P1)Beowulf speaks to the coast guard when he first arrives to the Danish coast line very confidently concerning the problem with Grendel., "I can calm the turmoil and terror in his mind."(p1) Arriving into Heorot, Beowulf declairs, "Now I mean to be a match for Grendel settle the outcome in single combat." (p) This shows his heroistic qualities along with him being SMART and STRONG. B-"Fate goes ever as fate must." (p1) Beowulf shows his strength by swimming with his friend Breca for five nights and then kills a sea-beast.

Beowulf states "' And I shall fulfill that purpose, prove myself with a proud deed or meet my death here in the mead-hall.'" (P4) B- he speaks again "'When it comes to fighting, I count myself as dangerous any day as Grendel...No weapons, therefore, for either this night unarmed he shall face me it face me he dares. And may the Divine Lord in His wisdom grant the glory of the victory to whichever side He sees fit.'" (p47)Hygelac is struck down by Grendel and murdered in front of Beowulf. Counteratacking, Beowulf avenges the hero's death, and defeates the monster. "Grendel was driven under the fen-banks, fatally hurt, to his desolate lair." (55) "Grendel's mother, monstrous hell-bride , brooded on her wrongs." (P 8) "The hell-dam was in panic, desperate to get out, in mortal terror the moment she was found." (p1)Like her son, she enjoyed the nighttime and the cover of darkness. "Where she is hiding, glutting on the corpse and glorying in her escape, I cannot tell; she has taken up the fued because pf last night, when you killed Grendel, wrestled and racked him in ruinous combat since for too long he haf terrorized us with his depredations." (p ) They are featherless creatures, and their whole ancestry is hidden in a past of demons and ghosts. (5)Beowulf is also noble from his father Ecgtheow. "Let whoever can win glory before death. When a warrior is gone, that will be his best and only bulwark." Then he tells how he will kill Grendels mother, "I guarantee you she will not get away, not to dens under ground nor upland groves nor the ocean floor." (P7)Since, the sword Beowulf brought to fight Grendel's mother does not seem to effect her he looked for another solution. "Then he saw a blade that boded well, …from the days of the giants, an ideal weapon, one that any warrior would envy, but so huge itself only Beowulf could wield it in a battle." (10) So, he used the weapon and struck down Grendel's birth mother to the ground. After the battle, Beowulf returns home with his treasures, and hands them all over to Hygelac. "Thus Beowulf bore himself with valour; he was formidable in battle yet behaved with honour and took no advantage; never cut down a comrade who was drunk, kept his temper and, warrior that he was, watched and controlled his God-sent strength and his outstanding natural powers." (P14) Rules the Geats for fifty years and then has to face the evil dragon. "Everywhere the havoc he wrought was in evidence. Far and near, the Geat nation bore the brutal assaults and virulent hate." (P157)…"."".no dread at all of its courage or strength , for he had kept going often in the past, through perils and ordeals of every sort,…." (P15)"'Now I am old, but as king of the people I shall pursue this fight for the glory of winning, if the evil one will only abandon his earth-fort and face me in the open.'" (P171)"Beowulf dealt it a deadly wound" Please note that this sample paper on beuwolf is for your review only. The Indian National Congress is a political party that led the struggle for the independence of India from the British Empire. It formed the mainstay of the Indian nationalist movement and later dominated the countrys government. Founded in 1885 with a base of support chiefly in the upper-class intelligentsia, the Congress originally advocated limited democratic reforms under British rule. As early as 184 the British India Society was founded in Bengal. Later, in 1851 Rajendra-lal Mitra and Ramgopal Ghose formed the British Indian Association. At about the same time the Bombay Association was started by Juggan Nath Sarkar, Dadabhai Naoroji and others. Poona also organized its public life through the Poona Sarvajanin Sabha. In 1876 Surendranath Banerjea founded the Indian Association in Bengal. One of the main objects of Surendranath and the Indian Association was the unification of the people of India on the basis of common political interests and aspirations. The Indian Association at that time used to represent and reflect public opinion from Peshawar to Chittagong. The time had meanwhile become ripe for the formation of an all-India political organization. At the first National Conference at Calcutta held in 188 Surendranath Banerjea suggested that an all-India political organization be formed. In fact, while the second National Conference was being held at Calcutta, the Indian National Congress, the first effective all-India political organization, was established at Bombay. The National Conference later merged itself into the Indian National Congress. Beginning in 105, it called for swaraj, or self-government, and in 10 it adopted the strategy of Satyagraha (non-violent resistance) devised by Mohandas K. Gandhi, who also widened its support into a true mass movement. By 1, led by Jawaharlal Nehru, the Congress was demanding total independence. During World War II it refused to support the British war effort, launching instead a "Quit India" campaign that led to violent confrontations and prison terms for about 100,000 of its supporters. After India gained independence, in 147, the Congress controlled the central government and most of the Indian state governments for 0 years. In 155 it adopted a programme of democratic socialism. The party split in 16, but the dominant faction (the New Congress Party) remained in office under Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Voted out in 177, it again split; Indira Gandhis Congress (I) Party (I for Indira) was again in power from 180 to 18, from 184 under Rajiv Gandhi after his mother Indiras assassination. After a brief interim, Congress (I) was returned to power in 11 under P. V. Narasimha Rao, but was ousted again in 16 amid public disaffection with party corruption and increasing support for locally based, left-wing reformist parties and the right-wing Bharatiya Janata Party.

After the dissolution of the BJP-led government soon after election, the United Front formed a coalition backed by Congress (I). Rao resigned as party president in January 17 and was succeeded by Sitaram Kesri. In April Congress withdrew its support for the government, but resumed the collaboration after a change in the coalition leadership. Six months later Congress once more withdrew its support and in December 17 the Lok Sabha was dissolved, with elections scheduled for early 18. In the run-up to the elections Sonia Gandhi made a number of speeches in support of the Congress Party and was seen as the standard-bearer for the Gandhi-Nehru dynasty. After an inconclusive general election in early 18, in which no party attained a parliamentary majority, the BJP formed a new coalition. When the coalition failed in April 1, Congress was unable to form an alternative government and elections were announced for late 1. In May Gandhi was elected party president despite her foreign origins and lack of political experience. The performance of Congress in the 1 election was its worst ever since independence, winning only 16 of the 54 elected seats. Gandhi agreed to lead the opposition in the new parliament. Investigating rates of reactionAIMThe aim of my investigation is to find out how rates of reaction are affected by temperature, specifically how the rate of the reaction between hydrochloric acid and marble chips is affected by the temperature of the hydrochloric acid.VARIABLES

Essay writing services for investigating rates of reaction papers

The variables in this experiment are· The mass of the marble chips· The size of the marble chips· The amount of hydrochloric acid used· The concentration of hydrochloric acid used· The temperature of the hydrochloric acid· The speed at which CO is produced· Equipment used My input variable is the temperature of the hydrochloric acid. I have chosen this because, according to the kinetic theory, the temperature should increase the speed and energy of the particles, therefore there are more collisions between particles, and the rate of reaction increases. My output variable is the speed at which CO is produced. I have chosen this because the reaction between the marble chips and the hydrochloric acid produces CO, therefore if there is a higher rate of reaction there should be more CO produced in the same amount of time. All the other variables will be controlled in order to make the experiment a fair test and so that any changes in the rate of reaction can only be due to my input variable · I will keep the mass of the marble chips constant by carefully measuring out and using the same mass of marble chips each time - this will be 5gm;· I will ensure the size of the chips are constant by using very similar size chips and approximately the same number of chips each time;· I will keep the amount of hydrochloric acid the same for each experiment by measuring it out beforehand - this will be 50ml;· The concentration of the hydrochloric acid will be kept constant because I will use acid of the same concentration from the same source (……….);· I will use the same equipment each time, as shown in my method. All the above points should ensure that my investigation will be fair, and that my results should be reliable.METHODFirstly, I will set up the equipment as shown above. Then I will measure out the hydrochloric acid with a measuring cylinder and pour it into the conical flask. Next I will measure out the marble chips, ensuring the chips are of the same size, and using accurate electronic scales. I will then heat, if needed, the acid to the required temperature using the bunsen burner. I will then add the chips to the hydrochloric acid and immediately put the bung on the flask and start the stop clock. When 50 cm of gas has been collected in the syringe, I will stop the stop clock and record the result in a table. I will heat the acid to 8 different temperatures, from 0-0 C, at 10 C intervals, using the same method each time as described above. I will repeat my experiments times and calculate an average to make my results more reliable and show up any anomalies that might occur.PREDICTION1. I predict that the hydrochloric acid and the marble chips will react to produce carbon dioxide gas, water and calcium dichloride. This is shown in the following equationCaCO(s) + HCl(aq) Ù CaCl(aq) + H0(l) + CO(g)calcium carbonate + hydrochloric acid Ù calcium dichloride + water + carbon dioxide. I predict that as the temperature of the hydrochloric acid increases, the time taken for 50 cm of gas to be collected in the syringe will decrease. This is because as the temperature increases, the particles in the hydrochloric acid and the marble chips move faster, so they collide more often and with more energy. If the particles collide with enough energy, the level known as activation energy, then the initial bonds will be broken. RESULTSTemperature ( C) First repeat Second repeat Third repeat Average0 57.81 61.5 58.1 5.150 7.7 .6 4. 5.0740 18.5 17.47 0.81 18.450 1.64 14. 1.47 1.8160 8.7 11.84 10.57 10.870 7.67 6.8 7.4 7.1080 5.80 4.54 4.76 5.00 4.6 .7 .8 .6 My results show that as the temperature of the hydrochloric acid increased so did the rate of reaction, shown by the fact that time for 50cm of carbon dioxide to be released decreased. The line of best fit on the graph is curved because Please note that this sample paper on investigating rates of reaction is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. The 10s were times of great depression for the American people. This resulted in sweeping changes. Some people starved trying to find work, while others did all they could just to hang on a little longer. All across America, times were tough. Suffering is sometimes an inevitable fact of life and cannot be avoided. The novel, Of Mice and Men written by John Steinbeck takes place during the great depression. This novel is basically about two ranch workers George and Lennie who escaped from a farm in weed to work in a ranch in Soledad. They lead a simple life as workmen but soon find themselves in for trouble. In this novel suffering is showed through the sadness and loneliness of the characters. Several techniques such as dialogue and setting are used to portray the suffering of the characters. Loneliness is a mans worst poverty. Without friends and companions, people begin to suffer. This is exactly what Crooks felt. Crooks is a stable buck who works at the ranch. He is also the only black . A proud and bitter man, Crooks has a cynical intelligence and a contemptuous demeanour that he uses to prevent others from excluding him because of his race. He reads a lot in his spare time which may be because he does not have anyone to talk to. Crooks isolates himself from the other workmen as he knows that he is not wanted around them. He will not be able to leave this situation because of the fact that he is black. They play cards in there, but I cant because I'm black. They say I stink. This is a clear example in the book that suggest to us that because Crooks is black, the other workmen does not want him around them. They say I stink. This sentence that Steinbeck used has a short and clear message to us readers that blacks were not wanted around the white people during that time. In this novel, techniques such as setting is used to convey the emotion sadness. An excellent example would be when Steinbeck describes Crooks's room. In the stable bucks room, a small electric globe threw a meagre yellow light. This description gives us readers a feeling of dullness and darkness. A meagre yellow light. This particular phrase foreshadows Crookss sadness.Loneliness changes the way a person thinks and behaves. Crooks lashes out at people and has become bitter because of the suffering he is put through by society. Well, I tell you, you all stink to me. The fact that all the workmen thinks that Crooks stink, makes him retaliate by doing the exact same thing back. You go on get outa my room. I aint wanted in the bunk-house and you aint wanted in my room. This sentence clearly suggests to us that Crooks doesnt like the other workmen and wants the same rights as they get. The black people in America were treated poorly back then and usually suffered from rejection and loneliness. Steinbeck emphasises on the matter by writing about how Crooks is treated to give us a clearly picture. He uses colloquial language used back then by the American people to give us readers clearer picture. Crooks emotions are once again displayed to us when he talks to Lennie, a fellow workman who was in his room, about having no one to relate to and communicate with. He states, Maybe u can see now. You got George. You know hes goin to come back. Spose u didnt have nobody. Spose you couldnt even go into the bunk house. A guy needs someone to talk to, someone to be near him. In a way everyone needs someone to talk to. whether its a friend, a family member, or even a pet. This is a source of comfort and wealth for the person. Crooks is lacking all these elements, which will definitely make him a very lonely man. Once again Steinbeck has used dialogue as a technique to convey this message to the readers. He uses colloquial language again to give us a better knowledge of how people communicated back then which will again enable us to have a clearer picture.

Order your Fiela's Child paper at affordable prices!Explain the changes in both households and how these have affected the eventual plot of the Novel.

The two households in the Novel are the van Rooyen household in the Forest and the Komoetie household in the Long Kloof. There are a few changes that take place in the two different household and affected the eventual plot of the novel.

The first change in the van Rooyen's household in the Novel is the loss of their child; Lukas van Rooyen aged years old. If the Lukas van Rooyen boy did not get lost or get missing, Benjamin Komoetie wouldn't have been accused of being the child that was lost nine years ago. He wouldn't have been brought to the village to meet the Magistrate at his court and none of the prejudicial acts would have been done. Benjamin Komoetie who is a white boy raised in a coloured family wouldn't be moved to the van Rooyen's in the Forest and none of the plot would have eventually gone on.

In the Komoetie household, the first change that took place was where Selling got imprisoned. As Selling became a convict, he does labour during his imprisonment which makes him to be weak. Before this happened, Selling was the head of the household and since his imprisonment, Fiela takes control as she becomes a stronger and dependant woman. That change causes Fiela to face anything without being frail and weak. This includes how she faces the two government officials, the Magistrate and the fact that Benjamin is being taken away. When the rest of the household members are worried and distraught, she makes sure that nothing gets their daily duties to be neglected as life has to go on for them. If Fiela didn't change during Selling's imprisonment and became a tough lady, we could never know how she would react to the two Government officials taking Benjamin away and how the Komoetie household would have gone through the ordeal of losing Benjamin from their family.

In the van Rooyen family, Elias got attacked by elephants after the pit he plotted trapped a calf elephant and was afraid to go to the Forest again. Before that happened, Nina has been sent to work in the village by Elias. These changes in the household made Lukas to be sent off to look for Nina as they were told she wasn't working in the village anymore and hasn't returned to the Forest. Elias is the one who usually goes to the village, to take the wages that Nina makes. As Lukas looks for Nina, he discovers the sea and is fascinated by it. He decides not to return to the Forest so that he could work at the sea and with the ships. As he works with the seamen, he becomes closer to Nina day by day because Nina is working at a place nearby. They spend more time together and realises that he is falling in love with her. This is where the plot of Lukas trying to find his real identity starts to get more complicated because if he is the real Lukas, he couldn't and shouldn't be falling in love with Nina because she is his sister. So questions of his real self comes into mind and makes him disturbed and distracted. If Elias and Barta didn't force Lukas to look for Nina, he wouldn't have started to fell in love with Nina and think of the consequences that would follow.

The last change in the Komoetie household that happened in the Novel was the death of Dawid who was bitten by a button spider. If Dawid's death didn't occur, a messenger wouldn't have been sent through the village to look for Benjamin so that he could be informed on Dawid's death and made him to return for a visit. Even though the messenger didn't meet Benjamin, Benjamin heard of it from Nina and he went back to the Long Kloof after nine years of being in the Forest. From Benjamin's return to the Long Kloof, he talks with Fiela over the problem he is facing which is the feelings he has for Nina who is supposedly to be his sister. As they talk, Fiela tells Benjamin to go back to the Forest and ask Barta if he really is Lukas, the child who was lost. Benjamin took her advice and went back to the Forest to ask Barta. As it turns out, after asking Barta if he really is Lukas van Rooyen, Barta tells him in front of Elias and Willem that he isn't and tells them that the tall guy in the Magistrate's court told her that he is the boy who is suspected to be Lukas. From Dawid's death, it brings about to the truth and the end of the Novel which tells that Benjamin Komoetie is not the lost Lukas van Rooyen and his love for Nina is nothing to be deprived of.

The changes in the two households brings the plot of the Novel together; from the beginning of the Novel where the Lukas boy was missing till the end where Dawid's death managed to bring Benjamin to find out the truth of his real self, either the Lukas boy that had gone missing or the white child raised up in a coloured family, Benjamin Komoetie.

This part of The Wars focuses on the life of the military officers of World War One. It brought out the fact that people from different backgrounds were drawn together for a common cause. Looking back at history, we know that the military in WWI was made up of a few groups of people. The ones who were military personnel previous to WWI, the ones who joined the army due to their patriotic feelings, and the ones who were conscripted into the war. The protagonist, nineteen-year-old Robert Ross, volunteered to join the war, the first one he has ever experienced. Even though he bears the rank of a senior officer that has a batman, he is a rookie at war. He is very innocent; he has never shot another living creature in his life. On the ship coming to war, his first challenged emerged. He had to shoot an injured horse. Given he was an animal lover, killing the horse was truly difficult. But he is a soldier with obligations above all else to the armed forces, and thus carries his task out against his personal wishes. In this part, there were mainly eight characters. In which, each of them differs from one another. The author uses these eight people to show the diversity of those within the war. Some do things by the book, several carry positive dreams for post-war life style, and others despite their situation keep a pet. Further, a number are scared and believe they were not meant to be in the war.The first transcript (pp. 101 to 108) about Lady Juliet was really difficult for me. I had to reread and reread it. At first I did not understand why it was placed in the book. However, later I realized that she was one of the people whom remembers about Robert and is willing to talk about him. Due to the fact that she is deeply involved in the story of Robert, Findley probably used her as a bridge for readers to further understand Robert. Moreover, Lady Juliet also gives us the flavor of time. In other words, she is used as a tool to inform readers the point of view of the society at that time.Up to this point in the book, Findley's writing disgusts me. That is, I disagree with is beliefs and morals. On pages 111 to 112, he indirectly expresses how when boys become very good friends, they can be "in love". On page 112, Findley uses Barbara to explore how women "went through a lot of men and didn't get back to….." This quote gives a reader the impression of how having more than one life-partner is tolerable. I oppose these two beliefs. I do not like how he always talks about homosexuality. In addition, I do not believe it is acceptable to have more than one partner in life.

Order essays on The Wars - Timithy Findley (Part 1 responce) and other topics

This part of the story is really confusing for me. I do not understand a great deal of the story. That is, I speculate there are a lot of symbols within the story that need to be understood in order to completely appreciate the story. Firstly, every time when Lady Juliet goes to visit someone in the hospital, she brings along some flowers. She does not give the flower to the patient. Rather, she just shows off her flower and departs with the flower. I believe this act symbolizes something, however, I failed to recognize what it is. Nonetheless, I believe I understand some of the symbolism in the story. At the scene of Harris' "burial at sea", Taffler was asked to put Harris' ashes in the center of the river. Yet, when Taffler threw the ashes, "he threw it out so far it passed the center and was gone from sight." This is suggesting Taffler's strength is weakening. He used to be able to throw objects at exactly where he wanted. By missing his target, it perhaps symbolizes how his life or health is deteriorating. In a war, people can die at any time. Taffler missing his object can foreshadow how he might later die in the war. After the burial, the mourner remained "until the roses began to crumble". Roses can be viewed as delicate objects, and can be used to symbolize the fragility of life. In both of the cases, it might be symbolic for the short-lives of the soldiers in WWI. Towards the end of part 2, I wonder what would happen at the end of the story. If everyone were to die at the very end, how could those who were left tell these families? Was their cause just? Was it worth fighting over? Was what had happened on the battlefield worth sacrificing their lives? I believe towards the end of this novel, all these mysteries could be solved. Media isThe media newspapers, radio and television, which convey information and ideas to the public. That is the Oxford Dictionary Definition of the word media. It means 'Newspapers, radio and televisions show the public information and ideas.' Its says that media is a form of communication. There are many types of media such as internet, billboards, buses and the three already mentioned above. Television, radio and newspapers are the biggest forms of media because in a morning you switch on either the television or the radio or you'll read the paper whilst having your breakfast and you will see media. Everywhere we go, either into town, to the cinema or even a walk down the street, you will see media. It has a very big impact on the world because you can email people over the internet who live in a totally different country to yours. You could even write a letter to a friend or relative who lives in e.g. Russia or China. Media is all over the world and everyone in the world can see it. Media is a big industry known for making celebrities and footballers who they are. Communication the process of transmitting and receiving ideas, information, and messages. The rapid transmission of information over long distances and ready access to information have become conspicuous and important features of human society, especially in the past 150 years, and in the past two decades, increasingly so.

Pay for essay on GCSE English Coursework- Advertising

Advertising is a public notice or announcement, especially one advertising goods or services in newspapers, on posters or on television. Another Oxford Dictionary definition but this time it was on advertising. Advertising is a form of mass selling, it is used when person to person selling is impractical or simply inefficient. Advertising techniques range in complexity from the publishing of simple, straightforward notices in the classified advertisement columns of newspapers to the concerted use of newspapers, magazines, television, radio, direct mail, and other communications media in the course of a single advertising campaign.Advertising falls into two main categories consumer advertising, directed to the ultimate purchaser, and trade advertising, in which the appeal is made to dealers through trade journals and other media. Advertising may be local, national, or international. The amounts charged for the three different levels of advertising vary, particularly in newspapers; varying rates are set for differing classifications of advertising. At one end of the scale are display advertisements for expensive consumer items such as cars. At the other is classified advertising, which ranges from appointments and property advertising at the top, to relatively inexpensive charitable and religious advertisements at the bottom. A wide range of advertising media has been developed from sources whose importance was previously ignored. Delivery trucks, once painted plain, now often carry something or messages, as do many shipping cartons. Some packages, for example, takeaway food cartons, carry advertising for products other than those contained in them, as do telephone credit cards.I chose my Jennifer Lopez advert because it caught my attention as soon as I saw it. The purpose of the advert is to make people want to buy the perfume. It's targeted at the younger, more energetic and enthusiastic generation. For example, you would find a nineteen year old who wants to buy this product more than a forty year old. Older adult is more likely to buy more subtle fragrances than ones designed for young adults. When you first look at the advert it shocks you because Jennifer Lopez is totally naked and it looks like she's in the shower because there's some sort of shower curtain covering her up. Having Jennifer Lopez in the advert really helps sell the perfume because it's like a big superstar has taken time out of their busy schedule to make and sell a sensual perfume designed for anyone. The slogan is 'FRESH- SEXY- CLEAN. THE NEW FRAGARANCE BY JENNIFER LOPEZ'. I think they really thought about the wording. They needed something which did the scent justice and they found what they were looking for. It makes it sound like it's a nice smell and it when you put it on, it feels as if everyone's looking at you because you look and feel good about yourself. The advert is very effective because it says, "If you but this product, you'll be like Jennifer Lopez," and everyone wants to be like her. Don't read too quickly. Good luck xxxxx.

Y- We think madness is a really important theme in the play. Throughout the story-line there is the question of Hamlet's madness, is it genuine or not?

H- At first we think Hamlet's madness may have been believable but as he carried it on it seemed more obvious that his madness was part of a plan. Hamlet's plan was to get revenge on Claudius; he would do whatever it takes. Would madness help him with this?

S- We think that maybe he thought if he exaggerated being crazy then he could get away more things than a sane person could. People may be more lenient towards him and his actions if they thought he was mad.

Y- We think Hamlet realised that he could probably speak more freely, critically and openly if he came across as a madman and in turn people may also speak to him in that way. However saying that, madness may have been the only way that Hamlet could have coped with his problems; maybe this wasn't all part of a big plan?

H- We think it was much more likely melancholy and anger rather than madness. Hamlet was enraged, sometimes happy and sometimes furious. But, we think he was more 'mad' as in angry, rather than true unconscious madness.

S- In the play he may have been called mad and described as 'suffering from madness' but we think today in a more modern world that Hamlet's behaviour would probably be described as 'emotionally disturbed' or 'manic-depression' these phrases are much more widely used nowadays rather than using the more final word 'mad'.

Y- We think that Hamlet's strange kind of 'madness' was noticed by some characters in the play, Claudius for one suspected that Hamlet was not quite mad….

H- 'Nor what he spake, though it lacked form a little, was not like madness'

Y- Other characters also noticed his strange behaviour but were they convinced that it was real, or not? You can decide for yourselves by observing Polonius' reaction to Hamlet in this scene.

S- We will now read an extract of the play which we have mostly translated into more modern English.

Scene from play

S- That scene was when we think that Hamlet first shows obvious signs of abnormal behaviour. Was this madness or all part of an act? Did it start off as true madness, and then later on Hamlet thought he could use it to his advantage?

H- We think that sometimes Hamlet did go mad, or at least severely lose control. But at other times he probably was quite alright, this is when we think he was likely to play on his madness. He realised that people knew that his behaviour was odd and whilst he was sane he could use this to get what he wanted revenge.

S- On the whole we think Hamlet swayed between madness and sanity throughout.

Y- Comparing Hamlet's madness to Ophelia's madness, we think that they are quite different. Hamlet was still able to think and plan and seemed like he could turn his madness on and off. Ophelia couldn't control what she was doing, she seemed totally unconscious from the 'real world' and her actions. We think this is a good example of true madness.

H- Ophelia was driven to madness by a number of things, at the start of the play she smiled and laughed and was perfectly sane. We think she started to tip over into insanity when a chain of unfortunate and horrible things started to take place.

S- We think it stemmed from her brother Laertes leaving, and then Hamlet's cruel treatment of Ophelia, taunting and verbally abusing her, rejecting her.

H- 'I loved you not; get thee to a nunnery why wouldst thou be a breeder of sinners?'

Y- 'Or if thou wilt needs marry, marry a fool, for wise men know well enough what monsters you make of them.'

S- Finally her father Polonius was murdered….by Hamlet. We think this was the last straw for her; she went mad. Even when Laertes came home she did not change. Maybe if he was there when Polonius died and when Hamlet mistreated Ophelia then he could have helped her through it, made her see it in a different way, and then perhaps she wouldn't have gone mad.

Y- We think Hamlet's reason for this bad treatment of Ophelia was possibly a way of getting back at someone for the murder of his father. He obviously didn't blame Ophelia but maybe he could let out his aggravation and anger and make himself feel better when someone else was suffering as well as him.

S- We also think that Hamlet may have used Ophelia to get back at all women.

H- We think that Ophelia's innocent but tragic story plays on the audience's emotions strongly. Shakespeare knew what he was doing here and did it well and made this an unforgettable element in the play.

Well done xxxxx

The question that four theories of Political Elites attempts to answer is that "who...governs and to what ends?" Each political theory poses valid arguments on the topic of control and influence, even though all the theories vary from one to another these hold some similarities with each other. Theories from political thinkers such as Karl Marx, and his Marxist theory, CW. Mills and the idea of The Establishment, Max Weber and the theory of the Bureaucrats, and the Pluralist theory are the four theories of the Political Elite and though they seem to differ greatly there is still some room to spot similarities. The Marxist theory, based on the teachings of Karl Marx, is centralized on the struggle of power between "capitalists and workers." It is the view that sees the ability to govern in respects to who holds control over the economy. The government, according to Marx, is "a piece of machinery," meant to, "express and give legal effect to the underlying class interests." In listening to the view one might assume that capitalists are the ones that govern this country, which might as well be true, yet this idea conflicts with the theory of Max Weber, a German historian and sociologist that seems to have views similar views with Marx but criticizes him for not including some other key points to complete a more accurate theory of elitism. Max Weber spoke of the Bureaucrats as the ones that to govern and "operate government agencies from a day to day basis." The reason for Weber's criticism of the Marxist views is because of the emphasis Marx put on control over the economy and thus control on government. The view of Webber was that Marx had "neglected the dominant social and political fact of modern times. Webber viewed that complete control of the government had long since fallen into the hands of the bureaucratic agencies that specialized in the management of "contemporary affairs." Webber could also see certain advantages and disadvantages to having living in this bureaucratic state. He saw that rationality would be the driving force behind the decisions of the bureaucratic agencies, yet Webber also foresaw that the power of these agencies would eventually become too massive and "overpowering." The idea that there was only one actual governing force was an idea not adopted by CW. Mills as can be seen in his theory of the Establishment. In CW Mills theory of the Establishment there are three main governing powers that be: corporate leaders, top military officers, and a small number of key political leaders. Mills believed that it was withing these forces that the major governing took place. The rationality that the entire country is controlled by a small faction of people is not an uncommon one many have believed in the ruling force an elite minority. Wilson argues that "Government is dominated by a few top leaders" these leaders which, he argues enjoy great advantages, wealth and prosperity, yet Wilson also argues a different point of view. He argues a pluralist theory in which Wilson states that it is not just a small factions that do the governing but a great network of people and institutions that involve practically every one.

The pluralist theory greatly contrasts that of the views that Mills had. The pluralist theory centralizes on the fact that it is not only a minor fraction that holds governing power but many other influence the power of government as well. Government institutions are a good example to the pluralist theory explaining for the variations in power from mayors to managers, legislators and governors, even judges and the president, all work together in order to govern over the masses. Yet this theory does not mean to say that there is complete equality among the governing powers, Wilson argues that all decisions, under a pluralist government are "majoritarian" and thus cannot be equal. Thus we can see how the theories contrast and compare, all having valid statements and points of view but with a twist. The comparison between the theories of Marx, Weber, Mills and Wilson all serve to present a different point of view as to how the government works today. They had volunteered to kill themselves in the belief that they would be the famous frontline of an avenging force. Now the Kamikazes had struck the first blows and indefinite delays were being declared, causing the men to feel that their lives were to be squandered. And on the battlefields knowing their deaths were near, the Japanese waited for American soldiers to find their dugouts so they could kill as many Americans before their own deaths. Lack of presidential skills, bad relations with the Russians and racism were mere scapegoats for the atomic bomb being dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August of 145. President Harry Truman knew that without a fierce attack of two atomic hits to Japan, would come more endless games to play, more casualties to suffer, and an unsure victory to come. The game was in play, Japan knew they had lost the war but they were still playing with the United States. 'Studies by the Japanese themselves had concluded that the war was lost by January 144' (data reference #4). The Japanese had known that it was a hopeless state for them, the war was not theirs, but it did not seem to matter. As thousands of our soldiers were being killed by Japanese found hiding in foxholes, the Japanese did not have a single glitch of a peaceful yield. The beliefs of Japan and of America were in complete opposition. Japan had a stronger arrangement of beliefs that dying for their country and leader at any means was right, whereas America didn¡¯t believe in such suicidal values. The fact that not a single Japanese unit surrendered during the course of the war (data reference #4) indicates the unwilling spirit of resign. Rather they had their own plans of dying; departing with a purpose, like the kamikazes whose planes brutally killed and inflamed soldiers and war materials. Or stories of Japanese soldiers pretending to surrender and suddenly killing as many Americans before taking their last breath. Truth is Japan was not ready to finalize war and weren¡¯t ever contemplating it.As the death toll of soldiers rose so did the fatherless families and homeless children. 'No one was sure if the bombs would work. But after such huge human costs in the war, Truman and the military were ready to bring the war to an end in a manner that would save the most lives' (Data reference #7). As the war wasn¡¯t coming to a close, a November invasion was in plan against mainland Japan. With this invasion it was fixed that hundreds of thousands of men from both ends were inclined to receive more death notices and painful grievances. It is not difficult to see a conclusion that without further war there would be no further deaths, making both Japan and America on the receiving end of gains. Although the atomic bomb would kill many Japanese civilians it would be the only way to stop the Japanese. And in the long run the lives saved from the surrender of Japan would be great. A military record estimates that if the invasion was taken place in mainland Japan 65,000 lives could have been lost (data reference #7). With constant fighting we can assume that soon our soldiers would become exhausted and military numbers continue to taper and the American society deepen into a war economy and life style. Quickly leaving us with no choice but to surrender ourselves to the Japanese. By April of 145 it had been declared that the number of casualties had been a tripled amount of the bloody World War 1, this being before the four long months to come before the ending of war (data reference #). Americans were home waiting on their loved ones to return, and mentally unstable from fear and anxiety from living in a society with ration stamps and wartime products. The American people were holding President Truman on a thin string, if the people said 'no more' than certainly the president would have had no more word in the war but to raise the white flag. Tired of watching friends killed by the undrainable Japanese probably placed a great toll on how much longer they were willing to fight.

As the second bomb 'Fat Man' hit Nagasaki, Emperor Hirohito said 'Bear the unbearable and surrender' (data reference #8) and it was at last the end of the war with Japan. Unfailingly the hopes of ending war with fewer casualties, victory, and most importantly all games being ended. President Truman and his notable decision of bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki was truly what saved America from a fatal position in time.

Period 1 AP Biology

/1/0Dissolved Oxygen and Aquatic Primary Productivity Lab

College papers on Elodea Lab

Introduction Oxygen is essential to the lives of many organisms. In the atmosphere there is quite an abundance of oxygen. While in the aquatic environment there is not as much. In the aquatic environment there only exists oxygen in it's free state, or dissolved oxygen (DO). Both chemical and physical factors can affect the amount of DO in water. Factors such as salinity, pH currents, and especially temperature can affect the DO. Biological processes photosynthesis and respiration can also affect the amount of DO in the water. The measurement of DO usually determines whether the biological activities requiring oxygen are occurring. In this lab we will be using the aquatic plant Elodea in samples containing different amounts of DO. We will be performing the light and dark method to measure the amount of DO. The change in DO concentration over time is a measure of net productivity. The use of bottles placed in light and dark environments is necessary in this lab. The difference over time for the light and dark bottles is a measure of gross productivity. We will need to perform the Wrinkler method in our expirement. This involves adding various chemicals such as alkaline iodide and manganous sulfate to our samples. This should determine the amount of DO in the water. Hypothesis I believe that the nutrient enriched samples will have greater productivity than those that are non- enriched. I also predict light intensity to increase the amount of productivity.Purpose and Objectives1. To understand the physical and biological factors that affect the solubility of dissolved gasses in aquatic ecosystems.. To define primary productivity.. To describe the relationship between dissolved oxygen and the processes of photosynthesis and respiration as they affect primary productivity in an ecosystem.4. To understand the affect of light and nutrients on photosynthesis.Materials & Equipment- 4 glass containers- buret- ringstand and clamps- pond water with Elodea- rubber bands- aluminum foil- manganous sulfate (MnSO4)- potassium hydroxide- potassium iodide (KOH- KI)- Sulfuric acid (H SO4)- Sodium thiosulfate solution- Starch- Nitrogen enrichment solution Procedure As directed on "Dissolved Oxygen and Aquatic Primary Productivity Lab" Except For 60mL BOD bottle

Add 1 drops MnSO4 1 drops KOH- KI Cap bottle and mix.Teacher adds drops of MH SO 4 Titrate 0 mL sample (Fill sample bottle to 4cm)

Add -4 drops of starch Titrate with Na- Thiosulfate until clear.ResultsGross productivityNet productivityRespiration Rate % Light Gross N-Enriched Net N-Enriched 100% 0.15 0.1 0.06 0.1 65% 0.15 0.18 0.06 0.0 5% 0.1 0.14 0.04 0.06 10% 0.1 0.1 0.01 0.01 % 0.06 0.07 -0.0 -0.0 Discussion1. Yes, most of the samples are light limited. This is mainly to show the effects of light depletion on photosynthesis and respiration of Elodea. We found that the darkened plants showed less production in terms of dissolved oxygen (DO). . Yes, likewise the samples were nutrient- limited. More than half of the samples were non- nutrient enriched. This is to test the effects on nutrient- limited Elodea and its photosynthesis/ respiration rate. By being nutrient- limited might have an affect on the plant's use or need of DO.. I can determine that productivity in terms of light intensity is that the productivity is greater as the light intensity increases. I can determine that productivity in terms of nutrients is that as nitrogen enrichment causes the productivity to increase. As described on my graph the nutrient non- enriched sample showed less productivity than that of the nutrient enriched one. Conclusion I found my hypothesis to be correct. The nutrient enriched samples had a higher productivity rate than those non- enriched. I found this surprising. Since nitrogen is said to decrease the amount oxygen productivity in terms of respiration. Which is what we were measuring. I mentioned that an increase in light productivity creates greater oxygen productivity which is right. I believe we had obscured data because we added the wrong amount of a certain solution. We ended up having poor data. For this reason our calculations ended up being incomplete so we were unable to determine the exact amounts of respiration or gross and net productivity rates Please note that this sample paper on Elodea Lab is for your review only. Reach for the stars, is a common phrase many children hear in their

life, whether by parents or role models in their lives. If a person

puts their mind to a task at hand they can accomplish it most of the

time, but when the goal is achieved and the path is taken to achieve

the goal is crowded with hate and lies, the question arises; was it all

worth it? In Mordecai Richler^s novel, The Apprenticeship of Duddy

Kravitz, Duddy Kravitz, his uncle Benjy and Jerry Dingleman (The Boy

Wonder), are all able to achieve their life long dreams, but we must

examine if their sacrifices were worthy of the prize. Benjy strived

his entire life to create a profitable business, raise a family, and

make his father, Simcha, proud to be his father. Now, Benjy was able to

make his business grow and become beneficial to all that were close to

him. He was able to provide his nephew, Lennie, with a University

education to help him on his way to becoming a doctor, and also gave

Duddy a job working at his factory. These sound like descent things to

do for your own family, however when Duddy worked for Benjy he never

treated him with respect. This treatment towards Duddy did not help

Benjy^s reputation with Duddy, who already thought Benjy favoured

Lennie. As well, sending Lennie to University was a very thoughtful and

expensive thing to do for him, but according to Duddy, ^Lennie never

wanted to be a doctor^ You forced him!^(41).

Shannon

This idea of Lennie never wanting to be a doctor was evident when he

ran away from school. Lennie could not take the pressure put on him by

Benjy, but he wanted to make Benjy proud and by doing so almost got

kicked out of school and ruined his life. The reason that Benjy was

doing all this for his nephews was because he could not have any

children, with his wife due to complications. Benjy started out doing

something nice but ended up trying to live his life through his

brothers. In the end Benjy attains cancer and is sinking towards death

with no one to inherit his life long achievement, his factory. No one

will take over his business in the family because Lennie is too busy,

Max-his brother- is too uninformed about it and Duddy has a certain

disliking for him. Duddy had lost his respect for Benjy due to the fact

that Benjy always ridiculed him. Benjy made his father Simcha believe

he had failed as a father because Benjy is nothing with all his money.

After all of Benjys hard work and determination he cannot even pass the

business on in the family because of his treatment of others on the way

to and at the top. Duddy wanted to own land after hearing his grandpa

say, ^A man without land is nobody^(48). To achieve this goal he led a

crooked life; even as a child he conned companies. By doing odd jobs

like this he does gain experience for life but he has no where to go

with this kind of experience except down. Then when he was able to find

the land he desired he did everything possible to retrieve the land. He

tried to be like Jerry Dinglemen at first, but he himself led a crime

filled life; taking advantage of innocent people, and dealing drugs.

His life was never very legal and he was always looking behind his

back, and this was Duddy^s role mode.

Shannon

Also, Duddy had lost the respect and trust of his close friends and

family in his journey to achieve his land. He lost the approval of his

friends when he became too self-indulged and forgot all about Yvette

and Virgil. He then lost all trust in everyone when he purchased the

last bit of land, by stealing the money from Virgil, and then refusing

the help of anyone else. The worst part about his losses was that he

was warned on many different occasions, for example, ^You^re too sure

of yourself^(10) and ^I knew you^d get your fingers burnt one

day^(51). Even Benjy realized that he, himself, had gone wrong but

Duddy did not heed his warnings, ^I was wrong because there was more,

much more^(8). He was warned on countless occasions to take it slow

but it did not work. All the effort Duddy put towards his life was to

make his grandfather proud, but he ended up hurting him and losing his

respect. These dreams of the characters were completed but were the

consequences worth the struggle? There is no suggestion that one should

not follow their dreams and pursue goals of life, but it makes the

reader think. Benjy realized his struggle was not worth the end result

but it was too late. Jerry Dinglemen, unfortunately may never learn

that his life of felony is not worth the hassles. The life of a

criminal can end in an instant and you could be left with nothing, left

to die a lonely man. Duddy still may have the chance to reconcile with

his family if he tries really hard because he still has much time left

in his life. He has to realize that material things are not everything

and family and friends are much more important.

Books are the legacies that a great genius leaves to mankind, which are delivered down from generation to generation as presents to the posterity of those who are yet unborn these are the great yet true words from Joseph Addison. The author John Steinbeck was a man, who portrayed a nation during its worst period if time telling about the struggles of its people in Of Mice and Men, and in the novel The Pearl. Both stories were brilliantly written with the unique trademark of John Steinbeck. In the novel Of Mice and Men, the characters Lennie and George are two intellectuals of very different intelligence levels; who stumble upon a job at a ranch that got ruined by Lennie's innocence. The novel The Pearl is folklore of how much a mans life could be consumed by a beautiful stone thatll cause so much hatred and sorrow within him. John Steinbeck has designed his own writing style based thru his detailed descriptions, and brilliant technique of foreshadowing, symbolism, and as well figurative language, all in which that makes him a great writer. The striking ability of John Steinbeck's foreshadowing in his books is remarkable. "`A mouse? A live mouse?' `Uh-uh jus' a dead mouse, George. I didn' kill it honest I found it dead.' " The killing of the mouse is the first example of foreshadowing in the story that foretells the tragedy at the end of the book. Eventually the object being killed grows from a small fragile mouse to a helpless woman (Steinbeck 1, pg.4). When Coyotito gets stung by the scorpion it gets the story going as well as foreshadows that Coyotito is going to die (Steinbeck ). "Jus' wanted to touch the dress, Gorge" This phrase repeated it self four times. This clued us in to the part where he killed Curley's wife (Steinbeck 1). The indirect suggestion of each of his books by the end makes one realize it all ties up together. One of the greatest objects in the novels of John Steinbeck is symbolism; significance of objects, events or relationships that make a story a whole and by the end you realize it was all meant to happen. The outfit Kino to wears was white and as Kino was going to fight he took off his clothes. The color white represents the pureness and innocence of Kino; when he took it off he was stripped the last of his innocence. The pearl had taken the rest of it (Steinbeck ). "George unslug his bundle and dropped it gently on the bank `I aint sure its good water' he said `Look kinda scummy'… …Lennie dabbed his paw in the water… he admitted it doesn't seem to be running." The water not running and being "bad" was after Lennie touched it and polluted it. Also the river stopping symbolized how eventually his life was going to stop in this journey. Steinbeck used many symbols that can be taken as just simplistic and normal, however it has a deeper levels of symbolism. The usage of figurative language in the story made the stories more attractive and alive. One of the most graphic parts in Of Mice and Men is when Lennie breaks Curley's wife's neck imagines her squirming, and fighting like there was no more air. "…the body flopped like a fish…" In a way that was her way of battling for her life but she couldn't the power to Lennie was too overwhelming (Steinbeck 1, pg. 1). "… slowly like a terrier…" There are many comparisons to animals linked to Lennie however the terrier describes him. He acts like an incompetent object, however when he gets scared he starts to attack and protect him self like his animal instincts tell him to (Steinbeck 1, pg ) "Lennie…creeping with bear like moves…" This physical description of is beast like figure, big and fearful look yet at the same time so clumsy (Steinbeck 1)The usage of figurative language in a novel makes us go beyond human characteristic and make us go to our primitive side.

Essay service for your john steinbeck paper

Through out both of his books John Steinbeck has shown a book pure genius; from the way he introduced the story to the closing of it. Foreshadowing has an exquisite use in the many novels of Mr. Steinbeck, by the end off the book you know it all goes together. The massive use of symbolism is extremely visible through both his books. It is always more exiting having figurative language in the book with the intellectual and physical descriptions, rather then having just monotonous inferences about someone. John Steinbeck showed a uniquely exquisite style of writing through the use of foreshadowing, symbolism, and as well figurative language.
